The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of External Services, Bureau of Waterways is recruiting to fill two Senior-level Water Regulation & Zoning Specialist vacancies.
One position will serve the Northern Region and can be stationed out of the Hayward or Superior office. The other position will serve the Southeastern Region and can be stationed out of the Milwaukee, Plymouth, or Waukesha office. Telework is available for up to 60% of the work week!
This recruitment may also be used to fill future similar permanent, project and/or LTE vacancies.

Position Summary These positions are responsible for administering the waterway protection program and the state's wetland protection programs for their assigned geographic area.
Duties include:
Providing assistance to the public and other government agencies Advising the public on the need for waterway or wetland regulatory permits Processing applications for general and individual permits Conducting routine and annual compliance monitoring of permitted activities Responding to violations and implementing the department's stepped enforcement process These positions require frequent travel within the assigned geographic area and occasional travel to other areas of the state to attend trainings, meetings, etc.
These positions have physical requirements, and the ability to operate specialized equipment including a motor vehicle. A portion of the work will be performed outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions. For more details, view the full position description . Salary Information Starting pay is between $64,000 - $69,680 per year depending on qualifications and experience, plus excellent benefits.
Starting pay will be set in accordance with provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan in place at the time of appointment.
The classification title for these positions is Water Regulation and Zoning Specialist-Senior (schedule and range 15-03). A 12-month probationary period may be required. This position is not represented in a collective bargaining unit and is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Job Details Driver License Requirement: The selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy. The candidate must be at least 18 years of age with 2 years driving experience. Candidates with three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years, or who have an OWI/DUE violation within the past year are not eligible to drive state vehicles.

Required qualifications include education and/or experience with the following: Surface waters, wetlands, water quality, hydrology, stormwater, fish and wildlife management, and forestry Interpreting engineering plans, maps (topographic, land surveys aerial photo, GIS), using databases, and writing technical reports and letters Best-qualified applicants will also have professional experience in one or more of the following: Working with Waterway and Wetland Regulations Reviewing, managing, or authorizing projects for compliance with laws and conducting project site investigations Working with environmental or other regulatory programs How To Apply PLEASE NOTE: The job application is set to time-out after 30 minutes of inactivity.
