Roland Park Country School is seeking an Upper School Mathematics Teacher who will work an 80% workload for the ******** school year. The individual in this role reports to the Upper School Head. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to foster and nurture a learning environment that is engaging and accessible to a broad and diverse range of students, as well as the ability to connect curriculum content to student experiences and cultural frames of reference.? This creative classroom teacher should enjoy building a curriculum and working collaboratively with colleagues.?
The Roland Park Country School Mathematics Department empowers students to be confident in their mathematical abilities and to achieve a deep level of mathematical reasoning. We strive to develop mathematicians who can transfer their skills to solve new and complicated problems rather than simply presenting one way of solving equations. Our program relies on an integrated approach to studying mathematics. We focus on problem-solving, critical thinking, and drawing connections between different mathematical concepts. For our core math curriculum, we use the Harkness method with problem sets authored by the faculty of Phillips Exeter Academy. Throughout their years in the Upper School, students study algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and Precalculus in the core program. In addition, they have the opportunity to take electives on a variety of topics, including advanced placement (AP) classes. The department also works to support all students in the math program by offering extensive extra help through our Math Workshop and office hours.

Build an open and trusting relationship with students, colleagues, and families. Plan, assess, and teach Math to RPCS Upper School students as well as in our coordinated Tri-School program with Gilman and Bryn Mawr Schools. Teach two sections of AP Statistics. Teach two sections within our core program ranging from Algebra I through Precalculus. Host Math Workshop and regular office hours. Collaborate with the Mathematics Department and STEM colleagues. Attend Upper School division and department meetings. Design learning targets, scope and sequence, and pacing guides as part of the All-School curriculum mapping process. Organize and update the learning management system for applicable courses, including course overviews, assignments, grades, and comments. Engage in ongoing self-reflection and professional growth, actively seeking opportunities to enhance teaching practices, cultural competence, and understanding of diverse learners. Participate in the faculty review process; observations, feedback conferences, self-evaluation, and goal setting to refine practice. Potentially serve as an academic advisor and/or advisor to student extracurricular activities. Other reasonable duties as assigned from time to time by the Upper School Head or Head of School. REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES: Demonstrated excellence in teaching, at least three years A strong desire to help educate courageous scholars and to create an inclusive and safe learning environment for all students Demonstrated ability to integrate technology in content delivery/skill development A commitment to culturally competent teaching Familiarity with giving and receiving feedback for professional growth Growth mindset, flexibility, and openness to collaboration and experimentation Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and respect different values and viewpoints A willingness to engage across differences with empathy and understanding Knowledge and commitment around diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and the impact it has on the classroom climate and curriculum Familiarity with giving and receiving feedback for professional growth Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail Strong work ethic and high level of integrity REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in mathematics or related field. Graduate degree preferred. Minimum of three years of demonstrated excellence in teaching. Experience with inquiry-based learning pedagogies that put students at the center of their learning. Familiarity with the Philips Exeter Academy Problem Sets and the Harkness Method of instruction preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Remain in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Repeat motion of wrists, hands, and fingers to operate standard office equipment, such as a computer, printer, and phone. Requires visual acuity to read a variety of written materials. Physical agility: stand, kneel, walk, run, push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, reach overhead, crouch, and can respond to emergencies. Must be able to move around and access all parts of the campus upon request, which includes gym, turf, fields, dining hall, etc. Occasionally ascend and descend stairs in emergency situations. WORK CONDITIONS :
The Upper School Mathematics Teacher is a full-time, exempt position. The individual in this position is expected to work during all hours as may be assigned by the School and during other hours for events and activities. The Upper School Mathematics Teacher is expected to perform their job duties on campus unless otherwise permitted by the Head of School. As a condition of employment, all employees hired after August 1, 2021, are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and be able to provide proof of such vaccination. BACKGROUND CHECK: A background check (including criminal records and employment history review) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can begin work with RPCS. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status or start of employment.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Occasional travel may be required for field trips and other program-related activities.
