Therapist Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of Program Supervisor, the Therapist is primarily responsible for the provision of individual therapeutic counseling to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The Therapist assists the Program Supervisor in developing and implementing clinical services and educational services to survivors with the goal to promote self-sufficiency. Therapist provides services in a manner which is culturally competent and empowers survivors by using survivors' strengths and informal support networks in service delivery.
Therapist Responsibilities: Provides therapy services to program participants based on and identified needs. This includes crisis intervention, lethality assessment, and individual therapy as required. Provides short-term individual therapeutic counseling sessions to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Utilizes clinical interventions to support and assist survivors in identifying and resolving issues related to their victimization. Provides crisis intervention to survivors during scheduled therapy sessions as needed. Maintains and updates individual client case records and accurately documents services provided. Completes all necessary written reports, case files and summaries in a timely manner and in accordance with program and agency standards. Shares responsibility in processing and reviewing intake of all referrals to program. Provides information and referral services to program participants. Maintains effective professional relationships with other service providers and community organizations in the interest of clients' and program goals. Carries out Agency policies and procedures. Demonstrates the values of diversity, equity and belonging; foster an inclusive environment that facilitates diversity. Identifies and reports on Untoward Incidents as required. Attends and participates in individual supervisory conferences, staff meetings, training sessions and professional development opportunities as required. Maintains required program certifications. Performs other duties, responsibilities and related tasks as assigned. Qualifications: Master's in social work, mental health, or related clinical degree and one (1) year post-graduate experience in direct service to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Prior related experience may be substituted for one (1) year post-graduate requirement. A demonstrated competency of developmental, emotional, and psychological needs of survivors is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and with flexibility in days and hours of work Demonstrate initiative, sound judgement, and an understanding of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking issues. Must have a valid New York State driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
