Essential Job Functions: Responsibilities
Meet regularly with classroom teachers to discuss student needs and provide support for pedagogy. Conduct in-class observations to support student learning needs. Collaborate with teachers to assess students' reading abilities, identify needs, create reading intervention plans, and pinpoint students who would benefit from Orton Gillingham small group intervention. Implement small-group interventions for lower school (K - 4) students in need of support and/or enrichment in language arts (reading/writing) or math. Collaborate with teachers to assess students' mathematics skills, identify needs, create mathematics intervention plans, and determine students that would benefit from diagnostic mathematics small group intervention. Read and distill educational testing to write Student-Teacher Educational Plan (STEP) to support student learning; schedule and facilitate STEP plan meetings with families as needed. In collaboration with the Assistant Head of School, analyze teaching and learning practices within the school. Support middle school teachers in implementing accommodations for students with support plans and applying universal design for learning (UDL) in order to accommodate the needs and abilities of all learners. Continue professional growth through ongoing education and/or professional development. Maintain communication with MCPS & FCPS for those Barnesville students with service plans. Assessments and Testing Coordinate collection and distribution of educational testing including accommodations plans. Oversee annual student ERB testing (standardized testing). Analyze results of ERB testing (standardized testing). Provide training to teachers in interpreting ERB scores. Conference with parents regarding scores as needed. Collaborate with teachers to organize and administer benchmark assessments in literacy and numeracy. Maintain records of benchmark data to track progress over time. Maintain records of educational testing, accommodation plans, and parent meetings. Inform and guide parents through the MCPS/FCPS assessment process. Curricular Assess the curricular scope and sequence and transitions from grade to grade. Have demonstrated proficiency in the Orton-Gillingham philosophy and methodology of teaching reading. Teach small group intervention for Orton-Gillingham reading and diagnostic math instruction. Support Lower School Faculty in the implementation of a new reading program as determined by the Reading Task Force. Administration At the direction of the Head of School, provide professional growth for faculty and parent education. Serve as a permanent member of the Admissions Committee. Knowledge and Skill Set Requirements: Bachelor's degree in education; emphasis on special education or curriculum and instruction preferred; Master's degree preferred; specialty training in learning support for language based learning disabilities and/or twice exceptional educational diagnoses; demonstrated successful classroom teaching experience working with elementary and middle school aged children; skilled in reading neuropsychological reports and intelligence testing results; technology proficiencies with Google Suite; a thoughtful and professional communicator skilled in fostering partnerships with adults and children; a passionate educator with a deep understanding of child development and pedagogy.

Physical Requirements: Daily desk work including computer time; as part of daily routines, mobility around a campus with uneven pavement and managing stairs; standing, bending and squatting as required to participate in classroom activities; shifting furniture as needed, lift/carry boxes up to 15 pounds; the ability to maneuver as necessary within a classroom setting; frequent walking inside and outside as part of general job duties and responding to students and/or incidents.
