Pay Grade:$12.00-$13.00 DOE

FLSA:Non-exempt


Job Description:Responsible to work cooperatively with an assigned Teacher and assists teacher with responsibility for the safety, supervision and education of all assigned Head Start children while under the care of the program.  Performs a variety of duties of average difficulty and developing lesson plans with teacher.
Duites:Essential Duties: Mandatory reporter of all suspected incidents of child abuse and neglect.
In the event of a disaster, Head Start employees are required to provide assistance in accordance with the tribe's Emergency Operations Plan or their level of training (CPR and/or First Aid).
All San Felipe Pueblo Head Start applicants must submit mandatory criminal background check information to the Human Resources Director before employment with the program or following any conviction occurring after commencement of employment.
Must follow a Drug-Free Work Place Policy and follow the intent of the Drug-Free Work Place Act.
Must have an annual physical and TB screening
May be assigned to bus monitoring duties.
Teacher Assistant Responsibilities: Maintains open communication and develops relationships with children, parents and staff.
Encourage involvement of the families of the children in the Head Start program.
Attends Parent Committee meetings and other related meetings as required.
Serves as a role model for children, parents and the community.
Works cooperatively with other teaching staff, management staff and parents to plan for activities.
Contribute to child's learning by actively communicating and interacting with all children, both indoors and outdoors, to promote language and literacy.
Assists Teacher in developing lesson plans and various teaching aids.
Assists Teacher in children's screening process within the 45 days of school.
Assists Teacher in planning field trips, activities appropriate to curriculum goals, objectives and Head Start Child Outcomes; assists with recruiting parent volunteers to help out in the classroom and field trips.
Assist in planning and implementing learning experiences that advances the intellectual and physical development of children.
Assist in establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment.
Adhere to playground duty schedule and bus monitoring schedule to assure the safety of all children.
Assists Teacher in maintaining cleanliness of classroom in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards.
Assist Teacher in maintaining complete and accurate student records, daily attendance and daily meal counts.
Assist Teacher in filing records in children's files.
Supervise all children at all times indoor and outdoor.
Follow rules and regulations set for by the Tribal Council in Tribal Personnel Policies and Procedures.
Adheres to Head Start Performance Standards, and follows Head Start in-house Policies and Procedures.
Maintain professionalism at all times and through communication and appearance as indicated in the Employee Handbook.
Actively pursue CDA, and a AA degree and beyond by taking classes through a college or university.
Participate in meetings, trainings and conferences for professional development to expand knowledge base.
Adheres to Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:To perform his job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 
Education:  High School diploma or general education degree (GED).  Must work towards CDA and AA degree in Early Childhood Education.  Must complete CDA within 2 years of hire (failure to complete CDA will result in termination).   
Experience/Basic Knowledge: Must have good communication skills with staff and parents.  Good knowledge in computer skills.   Ability to work closely with children, parents and staff. Able to work and communicate with Teacher  and classroom volunteers.   Ability to converse in both Keres and English languages
Required Licenses/Certifications: Prefer a valid driver's license. Must have a food handlers certificate and must maintain a current CDA licensure.  Must have and maintain current CPR/First Aid.
Physical Requirements: Must have manual dexterity to enter and retrieve data from a computer. Ability to sit and stand for long periods. Bends and stoops regularly.  Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Preferences: San Felipe Preference and Veteran's Preference.
Working Conditions:Works in office. Sits for long periods of time and types.  Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
