Pay Range Information: Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. Job Description Summary: The Fowler School of Law offers a unique — and nationally-recognized — bar preparation program to complement traditional doctrinal law school coursework, with the goal of fully and adequately preparing students for the California (and out-of-state) bar examination. The course is offered twice a year to coincide with test dates. Assist the Professor of Academic Achievement and Associat Dean for Bar Preparation and Academic Achievement with the evaluation of essays and/or lead the instruction of a section of the multistate exam review. This is a part-time temporary assignment scheduled to work up to 10 hours per week with an anticipated end date of July 26, 2024.
Responsibilities: Take lead on one or all of the seven specific multistate bar exam subjects by reviewing actual multistate bar exam questions from the students' four 100- and 200-question practice exams. Lead a discussion of the law required to be applied to the specific fact patterns in each question, including application of the relevant law to each of the four options on each question, thus guiding students to an understanding of how to distinguish incorrect options from correct options. Exact the most salient principle behind the correct option, and emphasize that principle for students to understand, record, and apply in future fact patterns. Each class is either 90 minutes or 3 hours in length, depending on the number of multistate bar exam questions covered in that session. Required Qualifications: Licensed attorney who has previously assisted with the Bar Prep Program or has taught as a Part-Time Lecturer in the Fowler School of Law. Juris Doctor degree. A minimum of 3 years related experience. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to work independently and as a team.
