Job Description:Summary:The person in this position will work on multidisciplinary project teams providing structural engineering and related technical expertise, primarily for dam structures, hydropower facilities, and flood control structures, such as spillways, decant systems, overflow weirs, culverts, pump/lift stations, and other miscellaneous hydraulic structures. Primary responsibilities will include design and analysis, project management, preparation of plans and specifications, report writing, cost estimating, site inspections, dam safety evaluations, risk analyses, and minor construction observation. The work may require short-term, out-of-town assignments. As markets fluctuate, opportunities may also include working on renewable projects such as wind turbine foundation design, mining, and industrial processing facility projects.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis (including structural analysis, steel, and concrete design)5 years of related work experience with dam, hydraulic, and flood control structuresProfessional Engineer (PE) certificationWork experience with AutoCAD or Revit and structural engineering analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCADStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clientsStrong technical and problem-solving skillsAttention to detail, accuracy, and completenessInterest in leading and mentoring entry level engineersWillingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needsPossession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving recordLegal authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the futurePreferred Qualifications:10+ years of related work experienceMaster's degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasisExperience in the consulting industryExperience performing dam safety reviews, audits, and inspections as well as structural stability analyses for hydraulic structuresFamiliarity with hydrotechnical, mechanical, and electrical aspects of hydropower operationsFamiliarity with hydraulic design of dam appurtenant structuresKnowledge of Canadian Dam Association (CDA) dam safety guidelines, FERC knowledge, United States Corps of Engineers, and Bureau of Reclamation dam safety and risk information decision and processes and associated technical bulletinsA hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is/can be based out of Barr's Denver, Fort Collins, or Wheat Ridge, Colorado, or Salt Lake City, Utah, offices.Colorado Applicants Only:Compensation:The anticipated base salary range for this position is $95,000 - 120,000/year. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus.
