Sr Material Handling Engineer Location Remote in Issaquah, WA : At SanMar, the work you do makes a difference. What's the Short Version? The Sr Material Handling Engineer assesses mechanical, pneumatic and electronic controls to optimize operations, material handling systems and overall building conditions in SanMar distribution centers. These services include developing and implementing structured building maintenance, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair/replace, parts management and related vendor-involved interactions. The Sr Material Handling Engineer provides training and guidance to maintenance teams in the Distribution Centers (DCs) on processes and procedures, ensuring consistency across the DCs. The position requires working understanding of user interfaces, electronic controls and components related to conveyance and production-related automated systems. This role works closely with the Distribution Systems Technology and Solutions teams, DC leadership, and Material Handling services vendors and integrators to ensure solutions are maximized for stability, scale and performance. This position is remote, with regular travel to support all distribution centers in order to coordinate and support training of new Maintenance Engineers and DC maintenance staff, along with Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and automation rollouts.
What Will You Be Doing? Provide regular training and guidance to the Maintenance Engineers across all DC's in maintaining the safety, repair, preventive maintenance, functionality and appearance of all MHE equipment, including rolling equipment, charging equipment, reach trucks, order pickers, pallet jacks, pump jacks, mart carts, and scrubbers. Develop, design, and confirm repair and maintenance work procedures and assignments performed by technicians, vendors and contractors performing maintenance. Maintain and disseminate knowledge of equipment operations and general troubleshooting including conveyor jam or fault resolution, and all peripheral equipment including Print and Apply, Scanner Equipment, Automated storage and retrieval system, Tapers, Carton Erectors, Scale, Tote Tenders, Vertical lifts, Robot Cells, Stretch wrappers, and custom equipment that interfaces with the Material Handling System. Train Maintenance Engineers on procedures to start and stop each system and subsystem; develop processes and provide guidance on maintaining normal operating conditions and understanding of conveyor conditions and faults. Navigate exacta program; generate and review reports; execute container lookup and reassignment. Communicate with external vendor support as needed; log problems and provide information to resolve system issues. Lead the set up process for parts reorder, review recommended stock parts with vendor, set up location and system for stocking parts on site. Participate in FSD creation process, follow process flow as described in the FSD (both controls and software). What Are We Looking For? Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent experience with industrial equipment. 4-6 years of relevant experience. Experience maintaining conveyor belt systems. May be required to complete and maintain SanMar's Lift Operator Certification every two years. Demonstrated ability and flexibility to quickly and constructively adapt to change in the work environment. Excellent interpersonal skills, great communicator, both written and verbal. Organized, thorough, detailed, self-sufficient problem solver. Able to maintain confidentiality and discretion. Ability to work in fast-paced, high-volume environment while meeting deadlines. Ability to build strong, positive rapport with associates in a team environment; ability to lead through personal example that communicates integrity, core values, and consistency in decision-making. Flexible with schedule, able to provide off-hours support either remotely, or onsite, as needed. Ability to travel as needed to support SanMar distribution network. What's Our Offer? Salary Range: You`ll earn between $100,000 - $155,000 annually, depending on experience.
Bonus: You`ll be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus up to 10% of base salary.
Paid Time Off: You`ll accrue paid time off on a bi-weekly basis based on hours worked up to 152 hours per year to start. Employees also receive 8 paid holidays and 1 paid family day off.

DC Warehouse (Equipment): While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 60 pounds. The employee operates powered equipment requiring use of both hands as well as full range of motion of the neck, head and back. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, grasp and perform repetitive hand, wrist and arm motions. The employee is frequently required to climb stairs, kneel/squat, bend and carry. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to wear a headset covering one or both ears. Employee will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment such as a protective harness while operating equipment. Basic English literacy is required for operation of machines and necessary daily paperwork. Work environment is moderately noisy. The employee is occasionally required to work near conveyor systems. There is exposure to dust and changes in weather conditions. Work is performed under typical warehouse conditions. Potential hazards exist with regard to machinery such as forklifts, pallet jacks, mechanized systems, etc. Work environment is hectic and fast-paced. The employee is regularly exposed to ambient lighting and can be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold including climates consistent with outside weather conditions.
