General Statement of Responsibilities: The Special Education Paraprofessional, through evidence-based educational strategies, will assist special education teachers in providing support services for students in special education, as directed in their IEP. 
Qualifications & Experience :
High School Diploma or GED. AA Degree (or higher); or 60 college credit hours; or passing score on AZ Dept of Education approved Paraprofessional Exam. Must have and maintain certification of first aid/CPR (District offered training). Must have and maintain annually Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification (District offered training). Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Responsibilities & Duties: Assist the teacher in working with student individually or in small groups to reinforce academic and/or behavior skills as directed by the teacher and related staff members. Perform duties as determined by the team, which can include daily living skills, toileting, personal hygiene, diapering, feeding, mobility, behavioral interventions, and schedule implementation. Uses effective basic strategies for management of behavior as well as crisis intervention strategies for prevention and intervention. Provides collaborative support in the classroom assisting teachers with the needs of their students with IEPs. Uses effective basic strategies for management of behavior as well as crisis intervention strategies for prevention and intervention. Participates in appropriate in-service, workshops and conferences as directed. Exhibits collaboration skills and teamwork. Assists teachers with preparation of instructional materials. Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations as directed. Collects and maintains data for individual students as requested by the teacher and as required by law. Demonstrates professional and flexible attitude/rapport with other staff members. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, to use hands to handle or feel objects or controls. The employee occasionally is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee must regularly move about a classroom to monitor students and work closely with them in a variety of settings (on the carpet, at their desk, at the playground).
Physical Requirements:                    Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to transfer students to and from wheelchair, toilet, stander, and or table.
Environmental Conditions: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Terms of Employment: 10 months - 155 days Monday-Thursday 9.25 hours per day Sick/Personal Leave Health Benefits Participation in Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS)          Compensation:
$15.22 - $16.06 per hour 
Level 3 on the  Support Staff Wage Schedule  Reports To:
Classroom Teacher, Site Principal and Executive Director of Special Services
