Position Details Position Summary : To ensure students have the academic and social-emotional support services they need in order to achieve their highest potential.
Primary Tasks: Oversee the mental and behavioral health care services for all students with IEPs/504 plans. Maintain special education deadline calendars for each special education teacher. Schedule special education meetings (Review of Existing Evaluation Data, Individual Education Plans, etc.) as directed. Forward all special education documents to parents/guardians in a timely manner and provide documentation in an organized fashion. Ensure compliance b the school with all local and Federal laws and regulation related to students with IEPs/504 plans and students referred to special education. Facilitate IEP meetings using a strengths-based and family-centered approach. Maintain confidentiality of information as required by law and school policy. Deliver quarterly IEP progress reports to parents/guardians. Communicate to parents and guardians the special education process including process for referrals, evaluations, annual IEP's/504 plans, and re-evaluations. Assist parents to access programs and community resources available to students with special needs.
Essential Duties and Performance Standards: Input assessment data. Assist in maintaining system for handling student records.
Performance Standards: Perform various assigned responsibilities, as allowed by state and federal law, of other employees in their absence to the extent other responsibilities permit.
Required Education/Skills: Master's Degree (or higher) in preferably in special education Michigan Teaching Certification Former experience as a special education coordinator Prior experience working with students in a school setting required, familiarity with special education procedures, law and rules preferred. Ability to adhere to laws and educational principles for providing support to students with disabilities. Proficient written and oral language skills.
Demonstrate the ability to : Exhibit a high caliber of expertise in subject matter. Work on multiple projects and respond to requests and deadlines in an accurate, timely manner. Research effectively, including internet research proficiency, working knowledge of computer applications, and educational software. Make sound decisions within the parameters of authority. Be courteous, professional, and tactful at all times. Maintain a positive working relationship with faculty, staff, Academy Board members, parents, students, Authorizer, and community. Motivate and create a shared vision within the Academy community. Be respected as an adult learner and as an individual. Serve as a role model who acknowledges through actions and behaviors the critical value of human relationships in achieving personal and professional goals and the organizational purpose.
