What does a Special Education Coordinator do? As a new Special Education Coordinator at The Emerge School for Autism, you can expect to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized education plans for students with autism. Your responsibilities will include conducting assessments, supporting teachers and staff, and ensuring compliance with all special education regulations. Your typical schedule will be Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, allowing for a structured workday that aligns with the school hours. This role will allow you to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students with autism while honing your skills in a professional and supportive environment.

To excel in the role of Special Education Coordinator at The Emerge Center, Foundation, and School for Autism, applicants should possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree in special education, with a preference for a Master's degree in Education or a related field. Candidates must hold a current certification in special education by the Louisiana Department of Education or be eligible for certification upon hiring. A successful candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in Special Education, strong leadership and management skills, and a deep understanding of special education laws and requirements. Proficiency in classroom management, experience with students on the autism spectrum, exceptional collaborative abilities, and a commitment to promoting student success is essential.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team are also key attributes for this position.

Duties of this job include but are not limited to:
Demonstrate instructional leadership and an understanding of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) writing and implementation process Works cooperatively with building administration and staff in planning, implementing, and managing programs and services for students with autism Assist the school leader in the development of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, govern the delivery of special education and related services including staff assignments, and coordinate development opportunities so that the staff can better serve students' needs Work cooperatively with the school nurse and other providers in the planning and delivery of services to students whose IEPs require those services Establish and maintain ongoing communication with the administration and special education staff Observe, train, consult with, and assist teaching staff and specialists in the development and implementation of IEPs This position serves as the Official District Representative (ODR) as assigned and evaluates teacher and other program personnel performance by doing annual formal evaluations and periodic informal evaluations This position advises parents, special education teachers, and related service providers in proper programming for students Ability to work as part of an administrative team using problem-solving skills to support student success Organizational skills to balance the demands of a multi-tasking position Must haves of this position: Must be comfortable with consulting outside agencies to support student transitional needs Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in special education, preferably a Master's degree in Education or a related field. Applicants must hold a current certification in special education by the Louisiana Department of Education or be eligible to be issued a certificate upon hiring.
