Position Summary: THIS IS A TIME-LIMITED POSITION WITH AN ESTIMATED DURATION OF 2 YEARS.
THIS VACANCY IS FOR 2 POSITIONS. APPLICANTS WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR BOTH POSITIONS.
UNC Horizons is a trauma-informed substance use disorder (SUD) treatment program. The location for this time-limited (2 year) position will be the UNC Horizons Program in Raleigh. UNC Horizons Program in Wake County provides comprehensive substance abuse treatment for women-identified people and their children residing in the Wake Co. area, including individuals transitioning out of correctional settings. The purpose of this position is to provide: 1.) assertive engagement for women in prisons and 2.) case management reentry services upon release. The Justice-Involved Care Coordinator will help women with a history of substance abuse who are transitioning out of the North Carolina Correctional Institute for Women (NCCIW) in Raleigh. This position will work with a team to help women access transportation, housing, medication to treat opioid and alcohol use disorders, employment, prenatal and primary care, and connect to outpatient and residential treatment and other interventions in North Carolina as needed. This role will also work to build relationships with community stakeholders and communities and engage in community outreach to support a smooth transition back into the client's hometown. The Justice-Involved Care Coordinator will work with housing specialists, treatment providers, employment agencies across NC to bolster a successful reentry and recovery process. This role offers up to 50% of telebehavioral remote work (based on performance of meeting clients' complex needs and treatment plans) and 50% on-site care coordination. An ideal candidate will reside in the Wake County area, have experience with case management and providing services to people who have been incarcerated, and have a keen interest in building community and a commitment to gender-responsive SUD care and reentry services.
This position will provide intensive case management services to clients leaving the North Carolina Correctional Institute for Women. Specific duties will include but are not limited to:
a) Engage in ethical service delivery and practices as required by all auditing bodies (certification and licensure boards, UNC University, UNC Horizons)
b) Coordinate with prison staff to initiate referrals to Horizons' post-release SUD services and serve as a member of their interdisciplinary team
c) Observe and monitor behavioral modification using the level of care utilization system (LOCUS) tool to measure psychiatric and addiction needs and facilitate SUD and MH screenings
d) Complete intake documents, treatment plans, provide psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, referrals to the appropriate level of care, clinical discharges, and co-facilitate crisis stabilization.
e) Provide interventions to include CENAPS/Gorski Relapse Prevention and Seeking Safety
f) Meet with clients to orient them to services, complete consent forms to initiate clinical services, and collect information and data as required for project.
g) Provide evidence-based behavioral health and counseling interventions, support the 24/7 justice-involved crisis line.
h) Attend weekly interdisciplinary meetings and individual supervision with Program Coordinator, and other team meetings.
i) Document services delivered in adherence to program productivity standards. All contacts must be documented, and will occur weekly, biweekly, or monthly based on the client's treatment plans. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a Human Services discipline with coursework related to the area of assignment. Some positions may require certification to practice as a certified or licensed Clinical Social Worker as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification Board.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Social work, case management or counseling experience required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Experience with substance use disorder treatment, gender-specific treatment, child and family counseling, justice-involved populations and/or a perinatal setting preferred.
Qualified Substance Abuse Professional (QSAP), Qualified Professional (QP) or CSAC (Certified Substance Abuse Counselor) or CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) or another relevant credential. An ideal candidate would express keen interest in criminal justice, substance use, and maternal health and be familiar with the resources in or near Wake County. Additionally, an ideal candidate would possess qualities such as working independently, being organized, having strong time management skills, communicating effectively, and having the ability to build rapport and new relationships while working in a hybrid setting.
In addition, the following knowledge base is preferred:
1. Knowledge of counseling theory and practice.
2. Skill in assessment, case management, and advocacy.
3. Knowledge of the needs and concerns of women, including some exposure to issues such as childhood and adult trauma, domestic violence, sexual assault, substance abuse, pregnancy/parenting, and legal and economic difficulties.
4. Ability to work with women from varying incomes, ages, ethnic/racial groups, and lifestyles.
5. Knowledge of SUD treatment environments
6. Knowledge about the criminal justice system.
7. Specialized knowledge of motivational interviewing, 12-step philosophy, and recovery principals. Campus Security Authority Responsibilities: Not Applicable.
