A Simulation Engineer transforms the 3D mechanical design for a piece of automated equipment into a physical model. They will define the kinematic and dynamic properties of the model creating a digital twin for Virtual Commissioning. They will write programs in multiple languages and environments to create realistic behavior in a digital environment.
This is a mid to entry-level position working under the supervision of the Controls Development Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Condition SolidWorks designs for physical modeling.
o Reduce detail for model performance.
o Rearrange the hierarchy to match physical motions.
· Work closely with the Mechanical and Controls Designers to create an accurate model.
· Apply physical aspects to the conditioned model in the simulation software or SolidWorks.
o Joints, Motors, Controllers, Robots.
· Work closely with Controls Designers to establish a list of PLC tags for the model.
· Map PLC I/O tags to the aspects allowing an external controller to connect with the model.
· Write programs and scripts to emulate 3rd party controllers.
· Create programs and scripts in the emulation environment to test model behavior.
· Support Design & Build Teams with cycle time estimation during initial design phases.
· Support the Controls Designer during the Virtual Commissioning process.
o Explain model behavior.
o Add requested features or functions to the model.
o Correct errors in the model.
· Work with other Simulation Engineers to advance the technology.
o C# Scripting for SolidWorks and modeling environment.
o VR & AR outputs for customers.
o Building reusable content for future models.
· Communicate design anomalies to the Design & Build Team when discovered.
· Make presentations to customers, co-workers, and management as required.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
· BS/BA in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics.
· 3 years of experience in the design or support of industrial automation.
· Demonstrated mastery of advanced math and physics concepts.
· Demonstrated use of multiple programming environments. C# experience is a plus.
· 3D Modeling experience. SolidWorks experience is a plus.
· Experience with industrial networking and communications.
· Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, Robots, and their programming environments.
· Familiarity with the applications of Servo Motors, and Pneumatic Actuators.
· Familiarity with the safety features of industrial machinery and their applications.
· Familiarity with industrial vision applications for inspection and robot guidance.

· Sitting for extended periods of time.
· Working with video monitors for extended periods of time.
