Job Description SummaryReporting to the General Counsel of GE Licensing, the role will provide lead counsel on the licensing of standard essential patents (SEPs), including licensing them on Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory terms. The role will also advise on licensing SEPs through patent pools or other collaborative licensing relationships. S/he will be a SEP and IP strategy expert with deep, hands-on experience advising transaction leaders on legal matters in real time commercial discussions with third parties. S/he will be committed to mentoring across teams, forging strong relationships internally and externally, as well as passionate about teamwork and exploring creative business models to innovate and maximize intellectual property value.Job DescriptionEssential ResponsibilitiesWorking remotely, partner with commercial leads on global FRAND licensing of SEPs spanning various high tech standards, with opportunities to negotiate "at the table"Present and explain infringement of standard essential and other patents in various global jurisdictions, including by way of litigation-grade claim chartsSecure and manage proper use of outside counsel and experts as required to complement internal activities Stay up-to-date with latest changes in US and global patent law, and educate the senior leadership team on how such changes impact current and future licensing activitiesProvide legal support for business development activities related to acquisitions of SEPsProvide other general legal advice and guidance as requiredBasic Qualifications/RequirementsJuris Doctor from an accredited school and membership in good standing in at least one state (or D.C.) bar.Licensed and in good standing to practice law in a state or territory of the U.S. Registered with the USPTOBachelor's degree in electrical/software engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited schoolMinimum of seven years of patent prosecution, litigation, and/or licensing experience related to standard-essential patentsAbility and willingness to travel up to 35%Preferred QualificationsAdvanced degree in electrical/software engineering or physics from an accredited schoolExperience on transaction teams as legal advisor on patents for complex and creative business models anchored in intellectual property.
