Sales Tax Auditor - Finance

Job summary
The City of Greeley is seeking a Sales Tax Auditor to join the Sales Tax team in the Department of Finance.Responsibilities include auditing business accounting records to assure compliance with the City's sales and use tax ordinance, conducting investigations of businesses, and responding to public inquiries regarding ordinances.The successful candidate will have strong customer service skills and the ability to work with upset or irate people.

Responsibilities
• Represent the City in sales/use tax audits• Schedule, plan, and perform sales/use tax compliance audits• Examine taxpayer records at the places of business• Determine taxes, interest, and penalties owed• Write audit reports detailing and summarizing findings• Conduct investigations of businesses to ensure compliance with licensing and tax requirements• Educate taxpayers/tenants regarding sales tax and fee requirements• Respond to public inquiries regarding ordinances• Assist the public in interpreting ordinances• Maintain confidentiality of taxpayer information
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, or specialized technical training• Valid driver's license• 2+ years of auditing experience preferred• Experience with sales and use tax audits preferred• Certified Public Accountant designation preferred• Spanish bi-lingual fluency preferred
