JOB SUMMARY The RISE Program Coordinator (Student Services Program Administrator) at the UConn Waterbury campus is responsible for the implementation of transition, engagement, recruitment, and supplemental educational programs and activities under the Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions project for traditionally underrepresented students in higher education. Under the Center for Access and Postsecondary Success (CAPS), they will work holistically with RISE (Resilience, Inclusion, Success, and Equity) Scholars to support their matriculation, persistence, and graduation at UConn. They will create and facilitate programming related to academic achievement, career planning, health and wellness, personal development, cultural, and social enrichment. This position reports to the Director for Student Success, Equity, & Inclusion at UConn Waterbury.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Creates and implements engaging and informative programming for RISE Scholars to promote their successful transition, persistence, and graduation, and to develop a sense of belonging at UConn Waterbury. This includes working independently as well as collaboratively with ISS, Cultural Centers, academic departments/programs, and other campus units to provide diverse and varied workshops, events, field trips, and other activities. Develops and coordinates UConn Waterbury's new non-residential learning community in support of Latine/a/o students, La Comunidad Intelectual, creating culturally relevant activities and events, recruiting students, and teaching the related First Year Experience (FYE) course. Works to strengthen the campus connection with the Cultural Centers and El Instituto. Supports, guides, and empowers students through their college experience, utilizing best practices to enhance their capacity for success and develop skills necessary to be advocates for themselves, build life and leadership skills, create balance, manage stress, boost self-confidence, and develop goals. Assists with recruitment efforts to develop the RISE Scholar cohort. Monitors student participation in RISE activities and completion of RISE participation expectations, and proactively encourages engagement. Assists in collecting, analyzing, and presenting program and student data used to evaluate student progress and program effectiveness, and preparing necessary reports. Works individually with students to navigate difficulties that could affect their persistence and graduation, connecting students to departmental, University, and community resources as necessary. Uses the University's reporting systems to maintain information while adhering to data integrity and reporting standards. Consistently and proactively works with the CAPS team to ensure good communication and provide the best student support efforts. Must have the ability to work occasional irregular hours as needed. Performs related work as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree and three years of related post-graduation experience working with underrepresented students in higher education; or advanced degree in a related field and two years of related experience working with underrepresented students in higher education. One year of experience must be serving as an advanced team member. Experience developing and implementing programming and/or workshops for college students. Ability and knowledge to support undergraduate students, including students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to build rapport with students, families, and University partners. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Advanced degree in higher education, counseling, or related discipline. Experience building or coordinating a university-level learning community. Bilingual in Spanish. Demonstrated experience working to promote equity in higher education. Teaching experience at the university level. APPOINTMENT TERMS This is a full-time, end-dated position with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding. The University offers a competitive salary, and outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Starting salary will be in the low to mid $60's.
