­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Announcement # 2024-143 Resource Worker II Tribal Forestry Department of Natural Resources Hourly Wage: $16.53/Regular/Furlough Location: WSFD, White Swan Position functions under the Yakama Nation, Division of Natural Resources Tribal Forestry. The Yakama Nation, in coordination with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, is responsible for the management of the 1.2 million acre Yakama Reservation, which includes 650,000 acres of forestlands along the east, slopes of the Cascade Mountains. Primary responsibilities includes being a lead member of a crew performing a variety of forest development field activities, including precommercial thinning, planting, cone collection, prescribed fire, fire suppression, and other projects which promote or enhance the establishment and growth of the forest. Incumbent is responsible for maintenance and operation of heavy equipment including a semi-truck and trailer used in mechanized fuel treatments, seedling transportation, prescribed fire and wildfire suppression activities, and other duties as assigned.
Examples of Work Performed: Primary responsibility includes being a lead member of a crew performing a variety of forest development projects includes precommercial thinning, planting, cone collecting, prescribed fire, and other projects which promote or enhance the establishment and growth of the forest.
During emergency conditions, participate in wildfire pre-suppression and suppression activities as required. Attends various fire training courses.
Conducts safety inspections for crewmembers.
Responsible for driving, cleaning, and general maintenance of vehicles.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of forest development projects, especially pre-commercial thinning, planting, and fire suppression, and prescribed fire.
Skills in handling tools and perform work as necessary.
Skilled in using chainsaws and knowledge of chainsaw safety practices.
Ability to perform arduous work involving considerable physical effort, stamina, and exposure to various weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
Ability to supervise approximately 3-5 Resource Worker I positions.
Minimum Requirements: Minimum of one year progressively responsible experience in natural resource at a level equivalent to a Resource Worker I.
Required to pass pre-employment drug test.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
Currently possess or ability to obtain a fire fighter rating of single resource or working toward single resource (Crew or Engine Boss).
Positions must pass the National Coordinating Group national standards for arduous work level which includes pack test, physical and mandatory firefighting training.
