The KIM Lab at the Kresge Hearing Research Institute (KHRI) within the University of Michigan is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow for a full-time position. This role is part of a Department of Defense (DoD) funded project aimed at understanding the impact of blast injury-induced hearing loss on central auditory processing.  
Research Focus :
Investigate blast injury's effects on hearing loss. Examine the therapeutic efficacy of augmenting endogenous neurotrophic factors to prevent hair cell and auditory synapse degradation, as well as associated brainstem neural damages. Major Responsibilities for the Postdoctoral Fellow in Blast Injury-Induced Hearing Loss Research: 1. In Vivo Auditory Brainstem Responses Testing :
Plan, conduct, and interpret in vivo auditory brainstem responses tests to assess the impacts of blast injuries and therapeutic interventions on auditory functions. Ensure the correct calibration and maintenance of equipment, optimizing the accuracy of results. Document and report findings, highlighting any deviations or unexpected outcomes. 2. Immunohistochemical Analysis :
Prepare and process tissue samples for immunohistochemical studies. Execute staining protocols with attention to specificity and consistency. Analyze stained the cochlea using confocal microscopy, ensuring high-resolution imaging. Quantify and interpret data. In addition to these primary responsibilities, the fellow will be expected to collaborate with team members, contribute to data presentations, and participate in regular research meetings to discuss findings and strategize future research directions.
MD/PhD in Otolaryngology or Ph.D. in Neurophysiology. Demonstrable track record of high-quality publications. Superior written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to design and conduct research independently. Technical Expertise :
Proficiency in in vivo and ex vivo electrophysiology. Experience in live-cell imaging.
