Position Summary: The Liu Lab in the Department of Genetics is looking for a Research Associate to conduct research to understand drug-resistance mechanisms in non-tuberculosis mycobacterium, including constructing mutants and assessing drug susceptibility. This position also includes work on implementing a high-throughput physiological profiling method to characterize bacterial features that differentiate clinical strains of Mycobacterium abscessus. The ultimate goal is to identify genomic determinants that are underlying drug resistance of non-tuberculosis mycobacterium.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: MS in Biology, Microbiology, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: 1.Basic biochemical and genomic techniques.
2.Extraction of DNA, RNA, and proteins from bacteria
3.Analysis of whole-genome sequencing, RNA-Seg data
4.Bioinformatic skills (primer design, sequence alignment)
5.Basic knowledge of R language
