Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions: Responsible for admitting, recovering and discharging of patients from the Endovascular Lab. Provides follow-up. Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other healthcare team members as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes adult and geriatric patients and the general patient population. This includes post-procedure assessments. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality. Approaches patient in a kind, gentle manner. Demonstrates the ability to handle emergency situations during high-risk procedures. Gives patient explanations and verbal reassurances consistently. Adapts nursing procedure to meet the needs for treatment of individual adult and geriatric patients. Identifies the patient verbally and by the patient's ID wristband. Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner. Demonstrates the ability to assess cardiorespiratory systems for changes in adult and geriatric patients and is able to treat appropriately. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served. Able to interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Directs and assists in maintenance and handling of special equipment, monitors and instruments. Observes behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications; takes appropriate actions and documents. Positions patients safely; pads and protects bony prominences. Preps and drapes patients correctly for all procedures. Carries out medical and surgical asepsis during all procedures. Demonstrates competence in preparing and cleaning of procedure rooms before and between cases and after terminal care. Carries out established techniques for safe administration of medications, contrast and parenteral fluids as per facility policies and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions and side effects. Follows the six (6) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Respects patient's confidentiality and the right to privacy. Demonstrates knowledge of arterial lines, Swan-Ganz and how to document appropriately. Is able to open sterile supplies and set-up for procedure. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of location, care and operation of all Endovascular Lab equipment. Ensures preop checklist is complete (H&P present, informed consent signed, test results present, prosthesis/dentures, contacts/glasses) before patient is taken into procedure room. Assists the scrub with gowning. Monitors the patient at all times; does not leave the room unnecessarily. Documents patient data during the procedure (heart rate, blood pressure, respirations, all pressures, O2 saturation, EKG). Maintains procedure records. Starts IVs; monitors IV fluids and patency of IVs. Maintains charge sheet for all procedures. Notifies patient care unit when procedure complete and gives a complete patient report. Moves and transports patients safely. Is consistently ready and prepared for assigned cases. Appropriately responds to a patient in an emergency or physically distressful situation. Assessment and reassessment of the patient is clearly and concisely communicated on charting. Documentation meets current standards, policies and procedures. Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationships with coworkers for the patient's benefit. Responsible for daily check of emergency crash cart and defibrillator. Counts narcotics at beginning and end of each shift with another RN per facility policy and procedure. Accurately completes procedure counts (instruments, sponges, sharps) with the scrub. Follows proper procedure in the event of incorrect counts. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of instrument processing, sterilization and biological monitoring. Is able to perform all duties of Endovascular Lab RN and scrub technicians. Utilizes initiative, self-motivated; manages time and activity, does not waste time. Demonstrates the ability to educate patients and their families. Demonstrates knowledge of radiation safety. Responsible for performing clerical duties as assigned. Requirements:
To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Must have knowledge of and follow HIPAA guidelines and secure Protected Health Information at all times. Education: Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Arizona. Current BCLS certification. Current ACLS certification. Minimum 1 year of experience in Cardiac Cath Lab and 1 year in critical care.
