Registered Nurse Educator Location Asheville, NC : Job Summary Works collaboratively as an active member of the interprofessional team to provide patient centered care. The RN will systematically and continuously collects and assesses data related to patient health status to develop, execute and evaluate the plan of care. Addresses all patients, visitors, co-workers, and care-providers with courtesy and respect. Provide patient care in the following areas: telephone triage, patient education, maintenance of the electronic medical record, scheduling, medication administration, and direct patient care. Job Emphasis In addition to providing high-quality patient care, the emphasis of this Registered Nurse position will be to work to address staff educational needs. This position will be responsible for and provide clinical education and support related to the design, development and implementation of training programs and clinical scenarios. This position is responsible for enhancing professional practice and the provision of quality patient care in the identified specialty throughout clinical practice sites within family medicine. Primary Responsibilities Clinical Practice and Quality of Care Executes nursing interventions by collaborating with the interprofessional team incorporating appropriate standards of care and practice and patient outcomes. Assesses and systematically collects any data related to patient health status and works in collaboration with the care team to develop the plan of care. Evaluates patient's response to plan of care and works in collaboration with the care team to make any necessary adjustments. Assumes responsibility and accountability for effectively managing nursing care of individual patients. Documents nursing assessment and interventions to reflect comprehensive and integrated approach to patient care. Identifies learning needs of the patient, and educates by adapting to patient learning style utilizing teach back method. Provides care that is safe, ethical, patient-centered culturally congruent and evidence-based. Skills and Responsibilities Triage, telephone and in-person Review and act on abnormal test results Initiate and monitor intravenous (IV) infusions Assist or perform procedures (e.g. NSTs, dressing changes, subcutaneous or intra-muscular injection, etc.) Provide patient education Execute protocols Assist with medication management Complete accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record Assist with management of urgent and emergent patient care situations Serve as a resource and mentor for others Assist with the coordination of care across the continuum Assist with the management of patients with multiple chronic health conditions, acute episodes of care, behavioral health challenges while promoting and supporting prevention and wellness Telecommuting as needed for operational needs Other duties as assigned This is a general description of the essential skills and responsibilities that may be included in the ambulatory setting, but are not limited to all skills or responsibilities. Education and/or Experience Associate Degree in Nursing or equivalent required. Graduation from a certified RN program required. Bachelor Degree in Nursing preferred. Two (2) years relevant experience or comparable combined experience and/or education preferred. 1-2 years of nursing experience in an Ambulatory setting preferred. Conversational Spanish preferred. Certifications, Licenses, or Registrations Current North Carolina nursing license Current CPR certification required. Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Knowledge and experience documenting patient care in an electronic health record. Excellent verbal and written skills Ability to make knowledgeable clinical assessments and judgements Staff will demonstrate appropriate technical skills with the utilization of the electronic health record and office based computer systems. Physical Demands Frequently stands, walks, uses hands to handle or feel, reaches with hands and arms, bends, talks, and listens. Sometimes sits, climbs, and stoops or kneels. Lifts up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/and or carrying objects up to 25 pounds. Work Environment Potential for routine exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals, etc. Moderate noise level typical of a busy clinical office with office/medical equipment and foot traffic. Schedule Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required. Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested.
