POSITION TITLE: Physical Therapy Assistant FLSA CLASSIFICATION:  Hourly Non-Exempt
EMPLOYEE REPORTS TO: Facility Rehab Coordinator; Clinical Supervision from Physical Therapist
SUPERVISES: Some supervision of Rehab Aides
SECTION I – Description of Position This job description is a record of the essential functions of the listed job. POPULATION SERVED The position involves direct and indirect patient care for a population of patients between the ages of 13 and 100+. Age specific experience and/or special training and/or expertise is required to serve this population.
POSITION SUMMARY The Physical Therapy Assistant assists directly and indirectly with the delivery of physical therapy services to include transportation, therapeutic exercises, and functional activities as outlined by treatment plan and in accordance with state practice guidelines. This position does provide direct patient care. Will receive general supervision from Facility Rehab Coordinator and clinical supervision from Physical Therapist. May provide supervision to therapy aides and students as needed.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS This position requires a valid state license or certification as a Physical Therapy Assistant. Must be able to function independently, be flexible, possess personal integrity, and be able to work effectively with patients, patients families, co-workers, and outside agencies. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and, at times, hostile people within the facility. Must be willing to assist in carrying out the objectives of the facility.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Job Description - PTA
1. Provides therapeutic treatment in accordance with the patients established plan of care.
2. Documents all treatment provided, including observations, recording and reporting patient status and response to treatment.
3. Records all patient treatments accurately on billing forms and maintains appropriate patient schedules per established guidelines.
4. Will participate in staff meetings, training and quality improvement activities.
5. Perform resident screening in accordance with the rules of applicable state practice act.
6. Performs other related duties as required.

A. Accident/Injury Reporting – Reports any accidents, injuries, and unsafe equipment and conditions to supervisor by the end of the shift and reports any pre-existing conditions as identified by the ADA.
B. Unsafe Conditions – Immediately reports and corrects, if possible, unsafe conditions or equipment.
C. Workplace Standards – Compiles with relevant regulations, standards and policies governing safe workplace environment (OSHA, JCAHO, etc.)
D. Safety Techniques – Maintains current knowledge of all aspects of the facility's safety program by attending safety-related training as mandated upon hire and thereafter as required by facility.
E. Modified Work – Accepts modified work assignments after receiving the physician's release to return to work following an accident/ injury.
F. Follows Prescribed/Recommended Treatment – Follows the prescribed/recommended treatment given by treating physician(s) after an accident/injury.
V. EDUCATION – Participates in required inservice and educational programs on an ongoing basis.
VI. ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY – Follows all facility guidelines outlining standards of attendance and punctuality. Responsible for reporting to and completing work at assigned times.
UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS Universal precautions will be observed in order to prevent contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials. Under circumstances in which differentiation between body fluid types is difficult or impossible, all body fluids shall be considered potentially infectious materials. All blood or other potentially infectious materials will be considered infectious regardless of the status.
