Professional Residential Structural Engineer Benefits

Professional Residential Structural Engineer Responsibilities

Conduct thorough engineering reviews, oversight, and production of permit submission packages for Florida projects
Collaborate with engineers and drafting teams to organize, prepare, and review permit submissions
Interact with Certified Field Inspectors to develop work scopes tailored to Florida's unique environmental conditions
Perform site visits for complex commercial projects, prepare reports, and develop repair designs that address Florida's climate and building requirements
Communicate with production crews to resolve construction issues and confirm as-built documentation
Interpret Florida's regional and local building code requirements and liaise with building and municipal officials
Complete continuing education to maintain professional licensing and deliver training presentations to teams

Professional Residential Structural Engineer Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Master's preferred) and Professional Engineer (PE) license (SE desirable)
Minimum 3+ years of experience in structural or geotechnical design for residential and mixed-use projects, preferably in Florida
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat (or equivalent)
Strong design and detailing competence in wood, concrete, and steel structures, with knowledge of Florida's unique design considerations
Solid understanding of Florida's building codes, gravity, and lateral systems, including wind and flood load requirements
Familiarity with Florida's soil conditions and their impact on foundation design
Excellent communication, organization, and team collaboration skills
Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain quality standards
Willingness to travel overnight within Florida for up to 15% of the time and work in a hybrid model (3+ days in office)
Valid Florida driver's license and ability to lift 20-30 pounds infrequently and enter tight spaces for inspections
