Maintain an effective interactive dialogue with Manager and all support departments such as Human Resources, Quality, Engineering, Process Engineering, Maintenance and Tool Room.This is a position with global grade14This position reports toProduction ManagerYour responsibilitiesSafety: Cultivate a high departmental safety cultureManage safety messages delivered at safety meetingsInitiate actions that support corporate safety goals and programsPresent monthly data to manager reporting any and all safety related incidentsInitiate a thorough investigation for all incidents, whether an injury or near miss occurred and properly distribute this information to all managers and supervisorsEnsure that each piece of equipment has a HSA, and that all operators have read and signed the documentEncourage team member participation in safety initiatives and subcommitteesEnsure that all safety training is completed in a timely mannerQuality Assurance: Facilitate adherence to quality planEnsure that all quality training of team members is affected on timeEnsure work instruction adherenceEffect a prompt corrective action plan for all NPR's written in the departmentEffect a prompt corrective action plan for customer complaints, which includes properly using the customer complaint data logPresent manager with monthly report to include data relative to total defects, cost of defects, list of NPR and customer complaint corrective actions, both open and closedCustomer Service: Create a departmental culture that values customer satisfactionCultivate an effective relationship with planners, sales personnel and other supervisor utilizing data tools available, ensure on schedule delivery of orders in the departmentAnswer all expedites within 24 hours, ensure that pertinent sales personnel are kept up to date on expeditesPresent manager with monthly delivery data to include "on time out of work center" Profit and Loss Management: Meet individual efficiency goalsMeet individual utilization goalsMeet flexed budget for factory supplies, direct labor, indirect labor, overtime and contract laborInitiate timely and clearly written maintenance repair orders and follow up to ensure uptime maximizationMaintain shop supplies at a sufficient level to support operations without excessive spendingContinuous Improvement: Acquire a working knowledge of programs designed for continuous improvement, such as 5S, Statistical Process Control, Kaizen and Six Sigma. Apply this knowledge in a structured process improvement format aimed toward safety, quality, flexibility, and cost improvementPromulgate participation in the CI programsProactively lead Team Member efforts to improve uptime through systemic improvement of the existing processPresent manager with monthly data which includes status of all continuous improvement projects initiated and/or completed in the departmentHuman Resources: Create a culture that promotes open and effective communication between team members and management Ensure effective staff relations through team member engagementCommunicate measurable job expectationsCoach, counsel, encourage, discipline and reward team members, as warrantedResolve team member issues through problem resolutionProactively develop personal growth opportunities for team membersMake effective employment decisions including quality hiring, reasonable retention, timely and candid performance evaluation, and appropriate counselling and disciplineYour backgroundBachelor's Degree preferred with minimum of 3 years previous experience as a supervisor in an industrial environment OR a combination of equivalent education and/or experience, preferably in a related industry or industrial environmentDemonstrate basic knowledge of the processes and production methods of assigned areaBasic knowledge of manufacturing systems, e.g., KBM, KronosKnowledge of Continuous Improvement processes, e.g., Six Sigma, Lean ManufacturingCertification in defined Continuous Improvement process preferredDemonstrated leadership skillsPlanning, organizational and analytical skillsStrong interpersonal skillsTeam-building skillsBasic PC software skills as a tool in the daily management/organization of productionDemonstrated skill in working across all organizational layers and disciplinesProblem-solving skillsEffective oral and written communication skillsAbility to manage multiple prioritiesAbility to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations Ability to write reports, and general business correspondence.
