The ideal candidate should possess a combination of training, experience, and certifications. They should have a level of qualification equivalent to or surpassing a four-year degree. The candidate's experience should consist of a minimum of four years of work in relevant work in one or more work groups or performing similar type of work. Candidate should have completed a minimum of 180 hours of documented technical training courses, safety-related courses, water-related courses, formal college-level courses, or have partially or fully completed an apprenticeship program. Additionally, the ideal candidate should possess the required certifications of NDEP D-2 and T-1 at the time of hire, indicating their expertise in the field.
The ideal candidate will have an over-all comprehensive understanding of Water Operations and possess SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) experience. Furthermore, they should have a solid understanding of electrical and mechanical operational principles, specifically related to pumps, motors, and valves.
The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the rules and regulations that govern our operations under the Safe Drinking Water Act. This includes familiarity with regulations such as the Surface Water Treatment Rule, Lead and Copper Rule, Total Coliform Rule, Disinfection Byproduct Rule, Ground Water Rule, and others.
Finally, the ideal candidate should be adaptable and willing to rotate through various shifts for training purposes. It's important for them to understand that shift assignments are based on seniority, which means they will most likely begin on the graveyard shift.
INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. The successful candidate may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation. GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, monitors, regulates and performs operational requirements in water production and transmission system and equipment; ensures treated water meets compliance requirements for delivery; and performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Operational principles of pumps, valves, electric motors, diesel engines and electronic, computerized and manual control systems; functions and servicing requirements of the equipment at a potable water treatment plant; operational principles, practices and methods of a potable water treatment plant; current practices and procedures in chemical, bacteriological and biological analyses; local, state and federal laws and regulations regarding the production, treatment, storage and transmission of potable water, including the Safe Drinking Water Act and relevant EPA regulations; safety practices and procedures related to the work; micro-computer applications related to the work, including modern, state-of-the-art supervisory control and data acquisition systems.
Ability to:
Operate a wide variety of pumping, treatment, control and transmission equipment, including digital control equipment; operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools used in the work; accurately read meters, gauges, valve books, blueprints and schematic drawings; maintain records; prepare clear and concise records and reports; understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively in writing and orally; establish and maintain effective relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
Training and Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent supplemented by completion of six college semester units in water production, treatment, storage and distribution, or other specialized training toward the Grade II Water Distribution Operator Certificate; and either four years of District experience in water production, treatment, storage and distribution, at least two of which were as a Distribution Operator I, or six years of journey-level operator experience in water production, treatment, storage, and distribution at a 20 mgd or larger potable water system, or a four-year college degree with a major in sanitary, public health, chemical engineering, civil engineering, chemistry or equivalent field that includes courses in water distribution and water works practices acceptable to the State Department of Health; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid Nevada driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle Insurance Policy.
State of Nevada Division of Environmental Protection Distribution Operator's Grade II at time of hire. State of Nevada Division of Environmental Protection Treatment Operator's Grade I at the time of hire.
