Position Summary: Pharmacy Technicians, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assist in the various activities of the pharmacy department. Pharmacy Technicians assist the pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records. Pharmacy Technicians function in accordance with standard written procedures, guidelines and state and federal regulations. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.
Job Duties/Responsibilities: Procures and distributes drug orders per physician request, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols and within specified time frame. Has all work checked by a registered pharmacist prior to leaving the pharmacy. Maintains awareness of developments in pharmacy and healthcare that relate to job responsibilities and integrates them into their practice. Maintains a working knowledge of all aspects in pharmacy services, including but not limited to: Drug names and classification, medication order and prescription interpretation, prescription computer order entry, pharmaceutical calculations, medication error prevention methods. Qualifications Requirements: High school graduate or GED required. 1-2 year(s) college or technical school preferred. Professional Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred. Professional certification (PTCB) required within 12 months of hire and maintained thereafter, 0-1 years of experience required; 3-5 years hospital experience preferred. Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified times. Strong organizational skills are mandatory. Ability to cooperatively work with hospital and pharmacy staff. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in the workload and work schedule. Ability to set priorities and solve problems. Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training new team members. Knowledgeable of and complies with laws, rules and regulations that govern the practice of pharmacy. Pyxis experience with knowledge of Pyxis reports (i.e., optimization, load/unload, nursing narcotics access, etc.). Good written and verbal communication skills required.
