POSITION OVERVIEW
The Patent Attorney II is responsible for overseeing all aspects of intellectual property (IP) matters as assigned by the Patent Counsel with minimal oversight. The Patent Attorney II will utilize a thorough understanding of the Company's technologies to provide appropriate IP protection in furtherance of corporate goals.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Evaluate invention disclosures and prior art to determine the patentable scope of the invention disclosures. Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications with a primary focus for patent applications in a variety of fields including material science or electrical engineering. Coordinate with local counsel for filing and prosecuting foreign patent applications. Cooperate with engineers and scientists to mine projects and identify inventions to be protected in patent applications. Work closely with and educate research and development personnel on intellectual property issues. Conduct patent analysis for non-infringement, validity, freedom-to-operate, and landscape analysis. Work with in-house contract counsel to support drafting and reviewing of intellectual property terms for non-disclosure agreements. Conduct and coordinate research into a variety of legal intellectual property (IP) issues and provide advice on IP matters. Oversee all aspects of assigned IP matters with minimal oversight. Monitor developments and changes in IP laws and regulations impacting the organization. Other duties as assigned. HOW YOU'LL DO IT
Sound business judgment and strategic thinking ability with flexibility to work on a variety of projects simultaneously and under deadline pressures independently or as part of a team. Maintain understanding of new technology developments to communicate effectively with inventor(s), managers, and outside counsel regarding technological and patent issues. Attention to detail - Ensures information is complete and accurate; follows up with others to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled. Personal accountability - Keeps promises and honors commitments, accepts responsibility for one's actions and assumes responsibility when dealing with problems, crises, and issues. Complying with all Company policies and procedures, safety regulations, company safety policies and safely perform all duties, including but not limited to, promoting a safe workplace. Maintaining high level of honesty, integrity and confidentiality with respect to company matters. WHAT TO BRING
J.D. from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school and good standing member of state bar (Michigan preferred). Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Minimal travel may be required. Licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office is required. At least three years of relevant experience is required. WHAT WILL HELP
BS in material science, material engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, or electrical engineering, preferred. Working knowledge of electrochemistry and electronics preferred.
