Parks & Recreation Events Program Manager Location Portage, MI : Monster Mash! Fridays at the Flats! Movies in the Park! Concerts! The City of Portage is seeking a professional, engaging Recreation Program Manager that embraces a team approach while being able to work independently. Planning and implementing special events, leading up to and during the event are key components along with volunteer development. Included in these responsibilities are obtaining sponsorships and grants, preparing news releases and articles for publication. Volunteer development includes recruiting, placement, and oversight of volunteers for events, tree decorating and other initiatives. The selected candidate will have excellent communication skills, verbal and written, and well developed organizational and time management skills. They will possess acute critical thinking and problem skills. This position will assist with park rental reservations as well as greeting visitors and callers. The Recreation Program Manager will provide leadership to volunteers and interns as available.
Candidate must possess a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three to five years of event planning/related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. A related associate or bachelor's degree is preferred. Position is Monday- Thursday 7:30 A.M. - 5:30 P.M. and Friday 8 A.M. -12 P.M., unless event preparation or managing the event calls for flexible hours. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Range of consideration is from $49,300- $55,500/annually, with an excellent benefits package.
