Ensure all routes and trips are completed on-time with available resources. Discipline personnel as needed. Carry out performance reviews. Administer the student management program. Represent the District at meetings, conferences, and seminars in a professional manner. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The following tasks describe the basic functions of the job and represent the type of work performed. They do not constitute an exhaustive list of the duties and responsibilities performed on the job. The following frequencies and percentage of time spent are approximations only and are subject to flexibility dependent on organizational needs.
• Supervise, assign work to, and evaluate all assigned bus drivers and bus assistants. Provide work direction, training, and problem-solving assistance to less experienced personnel. Discipline personnel as needed. Carry out performance reviews. [Daily, 30%]
• Identify, evaluate, and resolve transportation issues related to bus drivers, students, parents/guardians, schools, District administration, and the community at large. Monitor routes and ensure coverage. [Daily, 15%]
• Maintain ongoing two-way radio and telephone communication with transportation, administration, and school personnel as required. [Daily, 15%]
• Administer the student management program. Initiate protocols to ensure students are arrive safely at their assigned stop. Meet with students, parents/guardians, and schools, and order consequences at appropriate level. Supervise driver helpers for the program. [Daily, 15%]
• Monitor all aspects of bus driver and bus assistant performance, including spot checking for pre-trips and post-trips, appropriate use of specialized equipment, student management, handling of the bus, etc. [Daily, 5%]
• Use specialized software programs to compile departmental forms, detailed maps, graphics, and other operational paperwork. [Daily, 5%]
• Implement emergency procedures (e.g. snow days, accidents, early school closure, emergency closures) when necessary. Share in after hours, weekend and holiday on-call responsibilities. [Monthly, 5%]
• Represent the District at meetings, conferences, and seminars in a professional manner. Meet with personnel from other transportation departments within the state for problem solving, coordination, and implementation of new rules and regulations. Attend in-district bus driver meetings at schools and represent bus driver and bus assistant interests and concerns. [Quarterly, 5%]
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested, including regular driving assignments. [Daily, 5%] MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : The minimum amounts of formal education, professional work experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities that must be met for a candidate to be considered for a position.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Administrative assistant/clerical, payroll, accounting, accounts payable, purchasing, banking/loan servicing, or human resources experience.
• Intermediate knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Advanced oral and written communication skills.
• Advanced knowledge of school buses, emergency equipment, safety vest, wheelchair lifts and all other adaptive securements.
• Ability to meet Colorado School District Self-Insurance Pool insurability requirements.
• Ability to deescalate confrontational bus drivers, bus assistants, parents/guardians, and students.
• Ability to work alone and collaboratively with others.
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment and interact positively and constructively with supervisors, staff members, students, the community, and any other District stakeholders.
• Ability to demonstrate concern for student safety and customer service.
• Ability to work varying daily schedules.
• Possess and maintain a good driving record. MINIMUM CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : The minimum certifications and licenses that must be met, valid, and unexpired for a candidate to be considered for a position.
• Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.
• Colorado commercial driver's license Class B with Passenger endorsement or School Bus endorsement, or acquire within ninety (90) days of hire. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : Any job-related formal education, professional work experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, certifications, licenses, and other criteria that are inessential and in addition to the minimum qualifications, certifications, and licenses.
• Specialized classes beyond high school or equivalent.
• Experience supervising personnel.
• Bilingual. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS : The physical exertion, cognitive capacities, and work environments required to perform a position's duties and responsibilities.
• Heavy physical effort (lifting up to 50 pounds).
• Occasional bending, reaching, and climbing.
• Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
• Occasional repetitive movements.
• Hearing.
• Close, distance, color, and peripheral vision.
• Visual concentration, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Eye/hand coordination (e.g., typing, ten-key).
• Indoor and outdoor work environments, which includes exposure to all weather conditions.
• Normal school district environment.
