The Network Analyst position is responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of UNC's voice/video/data network infrastructure. The preferred candidate will have the knowledge and understanding of data networking standards (particularly Ethernet, video and fiber optic standards) and familiarity with important concepts involved in administering networks in a large production campus network. Ability to understand advance networking technologies, including vendor-specific network hardware. Ability to understand and implement 802.1Q VLAN technologies and other Ethernet and IP technologies. A strong and broadly based background including analytical and problem-solving skills associated with maintaining, installing and troubleshooting complex voice/video/data networking equipment. The employee should be able to establish and maintain productive working relationships in a team environment. The Network Analyst should possess documentation, analytical, and organizational skills and the ability to grasp and implement new technologies as needed. Candidate should possess excellent oral and written communications and customer service skills.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electronics, or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or a
- Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of networking related experience such as network design, analysis or network management; or
- Associate's degree in Electronics or Networking Technology and one year of networking related experience: or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Journey level requires an additional one year of experience.
- Advanced level requires an additional two years of experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Applicant should have a good understanding of how fiber optics work.
Applicant should be able to do basic installation of a point-to-point fiber optic circuit.
Valid NC driver's license or ability to obtain license within 30 days of hire
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preferred candidate will be able to use and analyze readings from an OTDR.
Certified in fiber installation, termination, and testing by a known fiber optic training company.
Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the telecommunication and data industry.
Required Licenses/Certifications
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Candidate must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and be able to work in enclosed spaces for long periods of time.
Schedule: 6:30am - 3pm (subject to change without prior notice).
Requires on-call and some weekend/after-hours work.
The position is required to be on-call once a month.
