POSITION SUMMARY:
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking a detail-oriented and innovative Scientist to join our research team in advancing the frontiers of molecular biology and genomics. The successful candidate will be at the helm of executing a wide array of molecular biology techniques with a focus on DNA/RNA analysis, purification, and next-generation sequencing. Harnessing both established and novel genomic applications, such as SMARTseq and 10X Genomics, the candidate will play a key role in designing and optimizing sequencing protocols, managing high-throughput experiments, and conducting rigorous data analysis using state-of-the-art bioinformatic tools. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, creativity in method development, and a collaborative spirit to support sequencing projects that contribute significantly to our ongoing Vaccine Immunology Program. The ideal Scientist will not only push the boundaries of genomic research but also ensure the accuracy and integrity of our scientific endeavors through meticulous record-keeping and quality control.
TASKS. The contractor shall:
Execute a range of molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA analysis, isolation, and sequencing.
Perform single cell RNAseq using SMARTseq and 10X Genomics applications.
Design and implement improvements to standard next-generation sequencing protocols.
Maintain and operate workstation robots for experimental throughput enhancement.
Calibrate and handle a variety of laboratory instruments, adhering to SOPs.
Conduct in-depth analysis of next-generation DNA/RNA sequencing data with tools like Cell Ranger and Seurat.
Produce high-quality scientific data and analyses consistently.
Collaborate with staff on technical planning and innovative approaches for sequencing projects.
Develop and optimize assays for new projects in conjunction with staff.
Work with scientists from other organizations on related research projects.
Maintain accurate and daily experimental records.
Contribute to the Vaccine Immunology Program's pipeline management.
Prepare presentations for both internal and external audiences and write methodologies for publication.
Monitor QC metrics for sequencing data and implement methodological changes as needed.
Coordinate sequencing projects by managing costs, timelines, and providing frequent updates.
REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
Ph.D. in Biology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in biology or a related field, including expertise in cell and molecular biology, immunology, and next-generation sequencing.
Single cell sequencing experience highly desired.
Proven experience working in a laboratory setting, maintaining detailed records, and adhering to safety protocols.
Demonstrated knowledge of budget management for projects and Good Laboratory Practices.
Proficiency in bioinformatic tools for DNA/RNA sequencing data analysis.
Strong team collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively on joint projects with other researchers and organizations.
Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, for presenting data and methodologies.
