ML TEACHER - HCPS
The ML teacher provides specialized instruction to develop the student's ability to effectively perform courses of study in English and acquire the English language. Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students, and creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals. Essential functions and r esponsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Performs those activities listed in the district's classroom teacher job description as appropriate and applicable. Plans, organizes, and provides instruction in English in the Core Curriculum Content Standards and English Language Proficiency Standards. Instruction must be consistent and coordinated with the district's instructional program so that students meet and exceed learning targets and the requirements outlined in the state and federal law. Develops and delivers lesson plans utilizing a broad range of appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies addressing all aspects of communication that develop each student's ability to read, write, speak, and listen in content areas at levels that ensure learners meet or exceed learning targets, and allow English learners to access the district's instructional program meaningfully. Administers academic and language assessments to evaluate student's progress in meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition. Maintains complete and accurate records of student's progress and evidence of growth and progress. Provides a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourage student responsibility, enhance motivation, clearly communicate routines, and incorporate challenging instructional strategies. Facilitates frequent and effective home-school communication by coordinating: conferences; written communication; parent training and other meetings/events; and administrative support for childcare, interpreting, and translations. Attend professional English Language Acquisition meetings, serve on building or district committees, and attend staff meetings as requested or as established by school policy. Understands and complies with the policies, rules, and regulations regarding English learners. Advocates for the programs need to meet the learning needs of English learners. Performs other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, and principal or established by the School Code. Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy machines, and telephones. Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Excellent organizational, planning, and human relations skills. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs. Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of children. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, peers, and parents. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to English language acquisition . Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Qualifications Profile Bachelor's Degree in English Education or its equivalent. Additional coursework with an endorsement or approval in English as a Second Language. Certification/License: Qualified applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina State Certification as a Teacher for additional information about qualifying for a license visit: Valid driver's license with reliable transportation due to travel between five schools within the district. A second language is preferred.
