Position: Medical Assistant
Assignment Location: 635 N. Erie St. Toledo, OH
Minimum Qualifications :
Successful completion of an accredited medical assisting program, which includes an Associate's degree, diploma, or certificate, through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Holds Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Certification through American Association of Medical Assisting Program (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) Certification through American Medical Technologists (AMA). Must maintain certification to remain qualified to hold the Medical Assistant position. Holds Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for health care providers. Must maintain certification to remain qualified to hold the Medical Assistant position. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of basic office equipment. Ability to use electronic medical systems and medical equipment. Ability to take height, weight, and hemoglobin. Well versed in the preparation and maintenance of office records and reports Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and be insurable under the Lucas County Commissioners Risk Management. Responsibilities: 1. Determines participant eligibility for WIC program services according to the WIC Policy and Procedure Manual; participates in intake of WIC participants; checks Medicaid eligibility; schedules, cancels, and reschedules appointments as needed; enters demographic information into WIC systems; informs participants on the process and/or what to bring to appointments.
2. Directs and supports participant flow as well as site operations by maintaining supplies, equipment, forms, and other materials.
3. Maintains a clean and professional environment for WIC participants.
4. Assists with participant education and refers participants to appropriate internal and external health and social services resources as needed.
5. Completes and maintains required documentation and other program data; generates and submits reports as needed.
6. Creates WIC Participant charts; charts vital signs, medical history, height, weight, hemoglobin, etc. and records participant information; reports any potential health issues to appropriate personnel.
7. Pulls, files, and manages terminated/purged charts each month.
8. Notifies WIC participants of termination of eligibility per WIC Policy and Procedure.
9. Completes and/or sends Voter Registration to appropriate agency (BOE).
10. Explains participant rights and responsibilities, program details, procedures, timelines and expectations.
11. Performs general office duties such as answering telephones, filing, supply ordering and receipt, etc.
12. Completes Farmer's Market coupon issuance as needed.
13. Covers absences at other Health Department WIC sites as needed, which may involve driving to other sites.
14. Participates in outreach efforts to build and maintain participant caseload.
15. Adheres to PHAB core competencies including, but not limited to: T1: 1.2.1, 1.2.2, 1.2.3, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.2.5, 2.4.5, 3.2.1, 3.2.2, 3.3.3, 3.3.5, and 4.1.4.
16. Participates in quality improvement efforts and achieving PHAB accreditation requirements. This position will be responsible for using quality improvement (QI) processes and/or techniques to improve the effectiveness of the assigned public health program.
17. Attends and participates in conferences, seminars, trainings, or related education classes as assigned.
ADA Specifications: This position is classified as Office -1 setting and performs a wide range of functions for the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department. Further information may be obtained from Human Resources.
