Description Maritime Operations within Mission Technologies - Nuclear & Environmental Services, is looking for a Mechanical Engineer 2 to join the team in Newport News, VA. Mechanical Engineers in the Maritime Operations group play a crucial role in supporting various functional areas at Newport News Shipyard. This position will involve engineering and technical support related to the construction, testing and operations of propulsion and reactor plant components.
What You Will Do This position will be embedded into a direct support role in the Newport News Shipbuilding Radiological Controls Engineering group. This group is responsible for providing engineering, monitoring, training, radiation health and technical services, and emergency planning support to the lead Newport News Shipbuilding Radiological Control Program to service Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines. Radiological Controls Engineering offers a challenging, high paced, team environment with opportunity to excel and endless possibilities for professional growth. Radiological Controls Engineering consists of three main group: Reactor Servicing; Overhaul Maintenance for Aircraft Carriers; and Fleet Support, Facilities, & Special Emphasis Projects. What You Must Have Candidate must have either Two (2) years at level experience with Bachelors in Engineering or related field; Or zero (0) years at level experience with Masters. Candidate must have successfully completed an undergraduate Engineering degree or related field from an ABET accredited program. Candidate must have experience utilizing industry-current Engineering design and analytical or modeling software. Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Candidate must be a U.S. citizen. Bonus Points For ... US Navy nuclear propulsion plant experience. Physical Requirements May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
