Your primary role as a Mechanical Design Engineer will be to design and evaluate heating products and process piping systems to support the engineered-to-order execution portion of the business as well as new product development. Analyze engineering sketches, specifications, and other data to ensure requirements and codes are met. You will have the opportunity to be creative and use your design skills to generate solutions to meet customer expectations. You will have the opportunity to get hands-on with the technology by testing your designs in the manufacturing environment and laboratory. You will be instrumental in the success of our products and customer satisfaction selecting appropriate components, developing an accurate bill of materials, producing precise drawings and 3D models.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Maintain product knowledge and apply this understanding to provide unique and custom solutions. Projects may be of a more complex nature and/or larger scope than standard systems. Investigate and research new technology available to apply to new and existing products Identify & execute improvements for equipment designs and execution processes within the department Analyze, develop and test designed equipment to meet specified customer requirements Prepare, review, collaborate with Manufacturing and Sales teams with designs and detailed drawings Communicate with internal & external customers on troubleshooting / support of equipment and systems Select components, assemblies and materials based on technical information from customer requirements and vendor offerings Support the Sales Team with technical information and discussions where required Engage with external partners (suppliers, panel shops, engineering consultants) to produce solutions Train and demonstrate equipment to internal and external customers and technical support staff Drive the Engineering Change Request and Change Order process Identify non-conformances and root causes to initiate and implement solutions Provide labor estimates for design activities Evaluates design changes, specifications, and drawing releases Execute customer orders and configure appropriately based on customer requirements Interface with both the ERP & CRM systems to execute activities and close out orders Generate and release full bills of material for manufacturing Utilize proprietary sizing program software as well as other engineering skills and knowledge to assure that Hydro-Thermal heaters, valves and systems meet design criterion and operating conditions Perform other duties as required, including lab testing or field service, with ability to travel occasionally as back-up support Design and model machine components and process systems in SolidWorks supporting the order process, troubleshooting and new product development projects Qualifications: Team player with a positive attitude Interest in a hands-on engineering experience Driven to learn and grow Strong communication skills for direct customer contact & leading technical discussions Highly detail oriented, organized with prioritization, time management skills and self-motivated Strong interpersonal skills with a passion for providing a high level of product design and innovation Highly motivated requiring minimal supervision and loves having multiple projects simultaneously PC literate, including Microsoft Office software Proficient in stress analysis and FEA Proficiency in topics and calculations in the field of Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, and Fluid Dynamics. ERP and CRM experience or equivalent experience. Familiar with engineering concepts, best practices, and procedures in mechanical design Familiar with design for manufacturing and assembly process Demonstrate ability to read and interpret piping and instrumentation drawings Experience with process control mechanisms (pumps, valves, etc) and instrumentation preferred Experience interpreting customer specifications for engineered-to-order projects Strong attention to detail traits 2+ years of CAD software experience (SolidWorks preferred) or equivalent experience. Experience with ASME codes or equivalent experience. Preferred Education and Experience: 2-5 years of direct mechanical design related experience (machine design, food & beverage products or process piping systems preferred) or equivalent experience. Education: BS Engineering degree: preference in Mechanical (Electrical or other equivalent degrees considered).
