Salt Lake Community College Position Title: Lab Aid, Non Destructive Testing (Part Time) Open Internally or Externally: External If faculty, tenure track status: Not Applicable Reports to (title): Amanda Isaacs - Program Manager Department: Aviation/Related Tech-2N7 Requisition Number: P24173 Position Type: Replacement Job Category: Part-Time Staff - Variable FT/PT: Part-time Initial Work Location: Westpointe Center Starting Salary: $15.50-$16.24 Job Open Date: 02/21/2024 Job Close Date: Open Until Filled: Yes Priority Review Date: Job Summary: Learning Assistants are expected to attend an assigned section of a Nondestructive Testing class to assist students with activities, attend paid training, and tutor students outside of class.Expected time to be 10-15 hours total per week Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Attend classes with students to establish connection/bonding with the instructors and the students and assist with classroom activities.
· Provide quality learning assistance to students enrolled in an assigned section of a math class.
· Assist instructors with one-on-one planning meetings to ensure that students are remaining engaged and absorbing material.
· Provide feedback to students using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, and build confidence in students.
· Work with students in groups providing support and structure in project-based assignments
· Participate in training, development opportunities and other events when available.
· Maintain regular communication with your supervisor and other instructors Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued: Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma Preferred Qualifications: The applicant will have completed at least one semester in a Nondestructive Testing Class Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of Calibration of Eddy Current Machines· Knowledge of Calibration of Ultrasonic Machines· Knowledge of Warm-up procedures of X-ray machines· Knowledge of Codes and specifications used for Liquid Penetrant Testing· Ability to communicate the subject matter effectively.· Application of different learning strategies, including active learning and peer-to-peer techniques.· Self-motivation and ability to work independently with limited supervision.· Empathy for and understanding of the diverse student population in the college.· Ability to listen and answer questions during interactions with students.· Great time management and organizational skills.· Provide support for content and concept understanding, not direct answers to graded work (e.g. homework, projects, quizzes, etc.)· Be open and available for observations and follow-up conversations.· Help students learn how to learn the material.· Help students develop or refine their study skills and become independent learners.· Demonstrated sensitivity to, respect for, and understanding of the needs of students seeking learning support.· Ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively.· Ability to be flexible in a constantly changing, fast-moving educational environment.· Ability to perform clerical tasks effectively.· Ability to work well with others and in a team environment.· Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, abilities, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
