Job Summary Review motions, pleadings, and transcripts; analyze applicable statutes and case law; and draft a memorandum to inform the Judge about the pertinent facts of a case, the parties' arguments, and the relevant law. Make recommendations for judicial action concerning Business Court matters. Facilitate conversations to enable parties to negotiate and settle claims/issues. Self-monitor progress according to the schedule of completion to submit drafts and documents on time. Draft proposed Summary Dispositions and opinions. This is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of all activities, duties, or responsibilities. Staff Attorney may be asked to perform other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Under Merit Rule 1, employees in this class are excluded from the Merit System for the manner of selection, appointment, removal from office, limitation, or political activity. REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Be licensed to practice law and maintain membership in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan. Have graduated from an ABA-approved law school and passed the Michigan State Bar examination. Requires knowledge of Position State, federal, and local laws related to the type of law practiced in the assigned department. County personnel regulations and procedures. Legal practices and procedures related to the area of assignment. General office practices, procedures, equipment, and technology. Requires skill in legal research and writing. Drafting legal documents. Identifying and investigating facts of a legal matter. Making decisions. Legal case management. Communicating effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public. Special Requirements DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Strong legal research and writing skills. Legal work experience as a practicing attorney, including positions of comparable responsibility with other Courts. Other positions may be deemed comparable by the Judges or Circuit Court Administrator. Good organization skills and the ability to multitask on several projects simultaneously. Health and dependent care reimbursement accounts where employees can place pre-tax dollars into an account to be used for health care or dependent care related expenses.
