TITLE: Instructor, Phlebotomy Technician REPORTS TO: Director of Adult Programs CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt Position Objective: Reporting directly to the Director of Adult Programming, the Instructor for Phlebotomy Technician will teach our curriculum with minimal oversight. Must be able to lecture with confidence in large classroom setting and/or online on the following topics:
· Infection Control, Universal Precautions, Safety, First Aid and Personal Wellness
· Basic Medical Terminology
· Basic Anatomy and Physiology
· Body Systems, System Disorders, Related Diagnostic Testing
· Blood Cells and Blood Components
· Vein Selection Criteria
· Hemostasis/Coagulation
· Blood Collection Systems and Equipment
· Order of Draw
· Patients' Rights and HIPAA
· Specific Testing and Collection Requirements
· Quality Assurance, Specimen Rejection
· Isolation Procedures, Infection Control, Special Collections Procedures
· In class practicum - venipunctures, capillary draws, butterfly draws, syringe draws
Duties and responsibilities: · Responsible for creating a classroom environment which fosters students' academic growth and guides their professional development.
· Responsible for keeping administration apprised of student progress (i.e., academic and attendance).
· Responsible for providing extra help to those students experiencing difficulty in the mastery of course work.
· Responsible for advising students who have minor problems which may be thwarting educational progress.
· Correct and return quizzes, tests, and lab assignments within 24 hours to Students.
· Utilize Instructional Aids such as overhead projectors, videos, field trips, demonstrations, and guest speakers, when possible.
· Work with adult programming team on goals and objectives for the program.
· Working together as a team to keep all student records are required by our accreditation.
· Attend job fairs, or market program in the community.
· Work together as a team to choose the best possible students for class seats.
· Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications and skills: Graduation from a program in the content area or program field in which they teach at an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation; or (b) Graduation from an otherwise recognized training entity (e.g., hospital-based program) in the content area or program field in which they teach; or (c) Graduation from an institution located outside of the United States and its territories in the content area or program field in which they teach must be supported with appropriate foreign education equivalency. Two years of practical experience in the content area in which they teach. A current license, certification or other credential if required by local, state and/or federal laws to work in the field, with the exception of those teaching in non-core (e.g., general education) courses. Associate's Degree Required Bachelor's degree preferred.
