Job No: 533349; 11/14/2023GROUNDSWORKERFacilities Services Salary Range:$3,545 - $5,562/Monthly (Budgeted Salary: $3,545 - $3,534)Work Schedule:Full-Time, Monday – Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; non-exempt classification.Essential Functions:Under the direction of the Facilities Services, Senior General Manager, the incumbent performs general gardening work and maintains the grounds in an assigned area of a campus. The incumbent plants, cultivates, fertilizes, waters and sprays ornamental plants, shrubs, hedges, trees, lawns, and flowers; rakes leaves; hoes weeds; cleans trash from assigned areas including parking lots; prepares and treats soils for planting; maintains hoses, sprinklers, tools, supplies and equipment in proper condition and repair; trims trees, hedges, and shrubs and erects tree supports. The incumbent operates and performs minor maintenance on small power-operated pavement sweepers, power mowers, small riding mowers, and other gardening power equipment. Required Qualifications & Experience:One year of experience in the care and maintenance of landscape areas or in general grounds maintenance methods. The incumbent must possess a valid California Driver's License and attach a copy to their application. The incumbent must have thorough knowledge of general gardening and grounds maintenance methods; proper methods of planting, cultivating, and caring for hedges, ornamental trees, shrubs, lawns, and flowers and of the use and care of gardening materials, tools, and equipment. The incumbent must have the ability to recognize the more common species of ornamental shrubs, trees and flowers grown in California; perform strenuous physical work as described in this class; mechanical aptitude and motor coordination; learn to skillfully operate small trucks and power-driven grounds equipment; read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; and to follow simple oral and written instructions. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.
