Grant Accountant Job Description: The Grant Accountant will be primarily responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and maintaining financial transactions for a wide variety of programs. This role will involve tracking revenues and expenditures, preparing required internal and external financial reports, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
Key Responsibilities: Coordinate the budgeting process for assigned grants, including setting up budgets in accounting software and monitoring budget activity. Resolve accounting and reporting issues as necessary; prepare monthly budget-versus-actual status reports for use by program officers and Grants Compliance Manager. Serve as the primary fiscal contact for sub-recipients and funders, ensuring compliance on contract conditions and reporting requirements. Evaluate the financial capabilities of sub-recipients and contractors for contract approval; notify Grants Compliance Manager and/or program staff of any financial issues. Coordinate with the Grants Compliance Manager and program staff to ensure proper recording of transactions and adherence to deliverable deadlines. Approve invoices and expenses related to various programs managed. Review budgets and reimbursement requests for appropriateness, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. Provide information to finance staff as necessary to assist in month-end close activities. Prepare invoices and requests for payments to funding agencies and reconcile grant expenses to funder reports. Initiate, design, develop, and deliver training on grants fiscal management. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in grant accounting or financial management. Strong knowledge of accounting principles and grant compliance requirements. Experience with budgeting and financial reporting. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
