The Financial Oversight Trainer will be responsible for providing training, reference, and support to local leaders, Council representatives, and other staff on issues related to financial oversight and necessary legal filings. This position will play a crucial role in ensuring our locals have the guidance and resources they need to manage their finances effectively and comply with relevant regulations.

Responsibilities: Conduct meetings with treasurers and relevant officers of Oregon AFSCME locals, field representatives, and Council managers to assess local needs and draft a plan for upcoming trainings and assistance. Collaborate with Council trustees to identify locals requiring outreach and assistance with finance and compliance issues, aiding them in assessing their readiness for audits. Develop and deliver short training sessions on key forms such as LUAFR, surety bond forms, and IRS 990/LM forms to targeted groups of member leaders and staff. Create and conduct trainings for new treasurers and potential future treasurers, focusing on essential responsibilities and best practices. Provide ongoing guidance and support to new treasurers through regular meetings and serve as a reference source for financial oversight and compliance inquiries. Establish an annual schedule of trainings for local leaders and staff on important financial oversight topics. Foster relationships with key fiscal leaders in locals to aid in succession planning and support. Cultivate connections with professional bookkeepers and vendors to provide additional assistance to locals as needed. Compile information on the basic financial operations of our largest locals to assist representatives and others during periods of financial leadership transition. Provide regular updates to the Executive Board, Finance Committee, and staff leadership on the condition of locals' infrastructure to inform decision-making processes. Qualifications: Proficiency in training individuals and groups with varying levels of experience, from beginners to seasoned union staff. Ability to adapt communication style to diverse cultural environments and motivate member leaders in democratic union principles. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive work relationships and exercise sound judgment. Experience with union and/or nonprofit financial operations, including basic accounting knowledge. Familiarity with and ability to teach implementation of AFSCME's Financial Standards Code and relevant laws and regulations governing AFSCME locals. Comfort with office technology and online communications, including experience with remote video training platforms. Part time, 20 hours per week. Salary range $33.28 - $43.39 per hour, transportation and phone stipend, healthcare, employer 401k contributions, long-term disability, and life insurance.
