Wheeling High School is seeking exceptional candidates who are committed to helping all students in a culturally diverse environment maximize their learning while making progress towards achieving district goals. A strong academic background is essential with a readiness to teach advanced placement courses. We expect our candidates to be highly proficient leaders who will excel in facilitating interdisciplinary curricular connections building-wide. The ideal candidate will be able to effectively articulate the role of literacy within a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) curriculum.
Outreach Family Specialist - 0.8 FTE
The Outreach Family Specialist provides both direct and indirect services to students and their families. The services are provided to assist students in overcoming problems that impact the students' educational experience and better engage families in the education process.
This is a grant funded position, employed on a year to year basis. Weekly work hours will vary. Specific Qualifications: State of Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in the area of School Social Work, School Psychologist, or School Counseling Bilingual Spanish preferred. Excellent communication skills. General Responsibilities: Remains current regarding the availability of outside agencies, hospitals, substance abuse programs, and social service agencies. Provides individual and family intervention/coaching based on student and family needs. Participates in case conferences, staffings, and screenings with administrators, faculty, and staff members as needed. Serves as a consultant to families, connecting them to services outside of the school community. Assists in developing and providing student intervention and professional development centered around student engagement and trauma. Develops parent training series based on district needs. Assists in problem-solving crisis situations with students and families. Serves on the Solution Finding Teams, helping to identify students who may need additional support. May facilitate and support students transitioning back into the school community post-hospitalization or after a long-term absence. Other duties as determined by the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services and/or the Assistant Director of Student Services.
