Job Title: Family Services Specialist
Department: Operations
Reports to: Family Services Manager
Status: Full-time, Hourly ($18/hour, Non Exempt)
Shift: Tuesday – Friday 2pm – 10pm & Saturday 4pm – 10pm (38 hours/week)
Job Purpose:
Family Services Specialists are part of the Family Services Team, which is responsible for all activities related to serving guest families and providing them with family programs, support and a room to stay while their child is undergoing medical treatment at a nearby hospital. The Family Services Specialist works in cooperation with other RMHC staff and volunteers to provide superior care, service and stewardship of our guests and visitors under the direction of the Family Services Manager, always with a "mission first" focus.
Responsibilities: Family Services:
Promote an atmosphere of warmth, respect, and privacy for all RMHC guest families Full understanding of RMHC policies and procedures, and the ability to enforce and explain policies and procedures to guests when necessary Manage all guest stay logistics, including– referrals, check-ins, and check-outs Address challenging guest family situations in a professional manner, always being focused on the safety, security, and well-being of guest families, staff, and volunteers Work closely with House Volunteers and Housekeeping teams to manage all aspects of room turnover Complete accurate documentation and reporting, including guest family files, shift notes, and database entry Responsible for clear and concise communication with hospital social workers and families as to room availability and referral/stay process Support the execution and management of all family programs, keeping attendance of guests who participate in programs during your shift Attend regularly scheduled team meetings and trainings (approximately bi-monthly) Assist with weekly room inspections, including addressing all guest family room violations, reporting all facility-related issues Help support programs within Family Services that enhance the RMHC mission Support the Family Services Manager in quality control of data and necessary reporting Assistance with onboarding and training of new staff Facilities Support:
Proficient understanding of House alarm systems and emergency procedures with the ability to manage House emergency situations in a calm, professional manner Maintain proper documentation of all reported maintenance issues in MaxPanda database Work closely with Housekeeping team to make sure all guest cleaning supplies are stocked and available throughout the House Delegate any tasks to the Housekeeping team as needed Volunteer Services:
Greet and Steward all House volunteers while working to build meaningful relationships that contribute toward a meaningful volunteer experience Delegate any tasks which assist in meeting the needs of guest families or the House, as necessary Document volunteer attendance in shift notes, calling those who do not report for their shifts Assist in training all House volunteers with any changes in House procedures that impact their shift duties Provide support to the Family Meal Program during evenings and weekends through stewardship of program volunteers as needed Assist in completing volunteer duties for vacant shifts, including providing coverage of the Front Desk when needed Other duties as assigned by the Family Services Manager Qualifications: Candidates should have passion for the RMHC mission and demonstrate the following:
Enthusiastic, energetic, adaptable, compassionate and willing to work as part of a team Approachable and easy to talk to, pleasant and gracious to guest families, RMHC colleagues, donors and volunteers Ability to prioritize and multi-task, using effective problem-solving and customer service skills to work in a fast-paced environment Organizational skills and attention to detail are essential Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to read, interpret, apply and explain policies and procedures in a calm and professional manner. Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred but not required Computer proficiency (familiarity with MS office & database software) High School degree and two years college experience (or equivalent); work experience in a non-profit, social-service organization, customer service or other related employment Supports equal and fair treatment and opportunity for all while building effective relationships and an inclusive environment Must exhibit a high level of responsibility with confidential information Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
