The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management (BSMM) currently has a vacant Environmental Scientist I position in the Program Development Branch. This recruitment will be used to underfill an Environmental Scientist III position. This position will contribute to the BSMM's mission and will play a vital role in the education and outreach opportunities for the Bureau and Division teams. This position will disseminate program information, present state regulation changes, participate in field and classroom events, reply to media requests and interviews (in conjunction with the Division Public Information Officer), update the bureau website and social media, lead formal discussion groups, publish public notices, and conduct public meetings. This position will also work with other agency representatives to focus on a unified message to business's, industry, and the public. An ideal candidate will have experience of or willingness to learn marketing techniques and have effective communication and public speaking skills to present information and interact with audiences of all ages. The position will have up to 20% travel. To see full Class Specifications visit: To Qualify In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements: Qualifications Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of technical environmental experience which involved assisting in environmental program research and planning; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
