The Emergency Department Educator/Assistant Manager is accountable for excellence in the clinical practice of nursing and the delivery of patient care. Assist the manager in supervising human, fiscal, and other resources as needed to manage clinical nursing practice and patient care. Assists with or accepts collaborative responsibility for developing, implementing, and interpreting policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for personnel, patients, medical staff, and the public. Guides and supports both the experienced staff and new staff to the Emergency Department environment through the onboarding experience and beyond by serving as a resource, assessing competencies, and providing professional developmental opportunities. The Emergency Department Educator/Assistant Manager assumes the duties of the Manager in her/his absence and reports directly to Director of Critical Care Services.
1. Ensures hospital compliance with professional, regulatory, and government standards of care as they apply to the Emergency Department.
2. Works in partnership with the manager/director to ensure the satisfactory completion of all department procedures, by developing and implementing strategies that maximize the effectiveness of Emergency Department. This includes helping to plan and organize staff.
3. Promotes and supports activities that assure the continuity of patient care.
4. Assists in the management of a comprehensive improvement program to ensure that program and services meet accrediting standards for the Joint Commission (TJC) and other accrediting programs.
5. Evokes in staff sense of responsibility and accountability for their work and continuous improvement of their performance.
6. Participates in committee and task force functions as assigned.
7. Demonstrates knowledge of budgetary guidelines for the departments and assists the manager in maintenance of adequate supplies and resources within those guidelines.
8. Fosters excellence in the Emergency Department care delivery through education, preceptorship, mentorship, and implementation of evidence-based practice.
9. Enhances the workplace/throughput flow by undertaking educational, clinical, and leadership responsibilities within the Emergency Department environment.
10. Collaborates with the Manager in coordinating all processes related to Emergency Department employees including interviewing and hiring, the performance evaluation process, staff orientation, training and development and unit-specific competencies.
11. Other duties as assigned.
1. Education:
a.) RN graduate of Accredited School of Nursing.
b.) BSN preferred
2. Licensure/Certification:
a.) Must have valid, current license by the Missouri State Board of Nursing.
b.) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
c.) Advances Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
d.) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
e.) Trauma Nurse Core Course Certification (TNCC) required.
3. Work Experience:
a.) Minimum of two years' experience in a hospital or health system with
responsibilities in supervision of staff and resources preferred.
b.) Minimum of one to two years' experience in a nursing leadership role
preferred.
c.) Minimum of two years of Emergency Room experience preferred.
