Position: Education Assistant  Department: Program 
Reports to: Director of Education and Home Life 
Organization  Boys and Girls Country's mission is to change the lives of children from families in crisis by loving and nurturing them in a Christian home, raising them to become self-sustaining and contributing adults. Boys and Girls Country provides a loving, stable, Christian home for children whose family cannot care for them.
Boys and Girls Country serves up to 66 boys and girls aged five to eighteen and 14-20 young adults in our College and Career program. Boys and Girls Country is located 35 miles northwest of Houston (
Position Summary  The Education Specialist will be responsible to the Director of Education and Home Life and work with the Program Team. This is a professional position that requires some evening hours. The overall responsibility is to ensure that the educational needs of each child at Boys and Girls Country are met. Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following: 
Serving/Advocating for kids: Track grades on students' progress reports and standardized tests and work with the Houseparents to implement tutoring strategies. 
Assist Houseparents in understanding diagnosis and the recommendations for working with special needs students. 
Check grades and communicate with teachers as needed regarding low grades and missing assignments. 
Monitor tardies and absences; follow through with state mandated make up times. 
Staff Orientation, and Staff Training: Host education training to orient new Houseparents on the Education Program, relationship with schools and their responsibility in working with students toward meeting goals. 
Help Houseparents understand and navigate Clever and Canvas. 
Caring for physical spaces and overarching programs
Responsible for upkeep and attractiveness of education areas (lab, tutoring rooms, library). 
Work with staff and students to provide high expectations for academic performance and future achievement. 
Facilitate Summer Program; work with tutors, plan field trips and oversee overall summer plan, help Director of Education and Home Life to interview and hire tutors as needed for Summer Program. 
Receive/sort/stock school supplies.
Check out books as needed using Libib system in BGC library. 
Ensure carpets are cleaned once a year by a volunteer group. 
Clerical duties: Collect report cards, calculate individual and campus GPA, make a copy and mail to parents/guardian; give originals to Tis.
Plan and implement Recognition ceremonies such as awards ceremony and education awards. 
Purchase senior ad for fall WHS varsity football program in May from Waller Booster Club. 
Oversight of Tutors/Volunteers/Librarians 
Recruit and orient tutors and volunteers to work with students in current and remedial work.
Manage and maintain tutor schedule, approve tutor hours, monitor houseparent involvement. 
Point of contact for librarians; order items needed as necessary (librarians will share needs by email).
Roles and Responsibilities  A commitment to emulate and support the Christian mission of Boys and Girls Country. 
A willingness to undergo extensive training about Boys and Girls Country, our policies and procedures, and our teaching model. 
A commitment to actively use our model with all of our children. 
Serves as a partner for maintaining licensing compliance of Boys and Girls Country through the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and any other regulatory agency for the organization. 
Ensures that staff members are up to date on any changes for regulatory compliance as it applies to Education. 
Serve as member of the Boys and Girls Country Performance and Quality Improvement committee. 
Critical Skill Set:  Our Education Specialist should: 
Feel called to a life of service and caring for children. 
Testing- must have the understanding and ability to administer and score educational standardized testing.
Must be able to manage volunteers and paid tutors. 
Special Education:  Assist DOE in understanding referral process for 504, SPED, ESL, Dyslexia, and other school related issues. 
Assist Program Case Management and Houseparents to represent in 504 and ARD meetings. 
Qualifications:  Must be at least 21 years of age. 
Master's or Bachelor's degree in education, human services, or closely related field required.
CPR and First Aid Training 
Crisis Intervention training 
Training and/or designation as an Extended Reach administrator to ensure proper data entry and integrity. 
Must be cleared through a criminal background and FBI fingerprint investigation. 
All staff who have contact with students must be tested for tuberculosis before the staff is assigned a responsibility to care for students. 
Must complete or have current CPR and First Aid training within 90 days of employment. 
Must attend orientation prior to being assigned responsibility for the care of students. 
Must complete at least 30 hours of in-service training annually. 
A minimum of two years' job-related experience.
Must be highly organized and enjoy a fast-paced work environment. 
Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing. 
Ability to organize and prioritize work. 
Valid Texas driver's license and safe driving history 
Ability to transport children in agency vehicles to include 15 passenger vans. 
Must understand and carry out the core value, mission, and Christian based approach of the organization.
