PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Director of Student Operations manages the student, staff and parent experience beyond the classroom, from the moment a family begins registration to the moment a student walks the stage at graduation. The Director of Student Operations accomplishes this by eliminating obstacles that prevent teachers and school leaders from focusing on instruction, by providing actionable student data that advances student achievement, by simplifying student data processes at all points of interface and by perfecting the student data processing systems to achieve the highest-level of student data integrity.
The Director of Student Operations achieves operational and data processing excellence at every school with emphasis in the following areas: student registration and enrollment, student attendance, student persistence, student records, student schedules and grades. In addition, the Director of Student Operations drives data processing quality by partnering with other departments when managing statutory, regulatory, local and contractual reporting and compliance requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: Bachelor's Degree in Education, Business, Computer Science, or related field required
Master's Degree in Education, Business, Computer Science, or related field required
Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of K-12 student enrollment requirements and student data processing preferred
Familiarity with student information systems preferred
Experience: A minimum of five years in education, business, information systems or similar role required
A minimum of three years directly managing a team in a supervisory role required
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs senior-level managerial work in the area of Student Operations by providing direction in strategic planning and operations. Hires and develops Student Operations department staff to address department and organizational needs. Work involves establishing the Student Operations strategic plan, goals and priorities for the department; developing policies; reviewing guidelines, procedures, rules, and regulations; establishing standards and measurement tools to track progress towards meeting goals; coordinating and evaluating department activities; and developing department budgets; perform other duties as needed.
Develop strategies with district and school leaders to meet (or exceed) the student accounting goals for enrollment and average daily attendance (ADA) at every school. Develop and execute effective professional development plans for district departments and school leaders in the area of student accounting, student operations process and student operations systems. Develop operating mechanisms to identify and improve robust student information system enhancements, student record reconciliation processes and reporting mechanisms to maintain accurate student data throughout the academic year. Oversee processes that lead to the effective and timely execution of the student data processing lifecycle and the collection and reporting of district data, including PEIMS data. Retain staff through proper hiring, supportive onboarding, effective professional development and a positive work environment. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards. Note: Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.
