The University of Oklahoma Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture invites applications for the 12-month renewable term faculty position at the rank of associate or full professor and in the position of Director of the Institute for Quality Communities.
The Director of the Institute for Quality Communities (IQC) is responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of IQC programs and initiatives. The IQC Director reports to the Dean of Gibbs College and collaborates with GCA administrators and division directors on a range of issues impacting the college and IQC. The IQC Director shall work with faculty and students across all the college's programs, and particularly closely with those in the Division of Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Design. The IQC Director oversees IQC staff and student assistants while coordinating regularly with planning, design, and construction faculty and industry professionals. The successful candidate shall be able to demonstrate the passion, expertise, and experience necessary to successfully advance the IQC and its objectives.
About the Institute The Institute for Quality Communities was established in 2008 by the University of Oklahoma to enhance the quality of communities throughout Oklahoma and around the world. The IQC works lockstep with faculty and students in the college's four divisions: Architecture, Construction Science, Interior Design, and Planning, Landscape Architecture and Design. As the Gibbs College community outreach arm, the IQC is a leading source of community engagement, placemaking, and urban design expertise in the region. In addition to the work it performs in communities across the state, the IQC hosts the nationally recognized biennial Placemaking Conference and its approximately 700 attendees on the Norman campus. The IQC has completed 112 community projects while involving over 825 students and secured over $600,000 in external funding since its inception. For more information see:   Christopher C. Required Qualifications A terminal professional degree in one of the disciplines represented in Gibbs College or in a related field. Significant experience relevant to the mission of the IQC in its University of Oklahoma context. Extensive community engagement, design, and/or planning experience. Ability to grow and maintain IQC partnerships across the State as well as internal to the University. Project management experience and administrative abilities A collaborative approach to team building and problem-solving, and an ability to inspire and lead. Grant writing/management experience. Ability or willingness to mentor, and potentially teach on occasion, undergraduate and graduate students in project-oriented coursework. Preferred Qualifications Evidence of interdisciplinary collaborative professional practice, teaching, scholarship/ creative activity, and/or service. Experience in complementary/allied disciplines such as landscape architecture, architecture, urban design, geography, or public administration. Record of peer-reviewed research, design awards, or other publicly acknowledged design or community engagement work. Professional registration, licensure, and/or certifications. Salary and rank shall be commensurate with experience and proven abilities. The successful applicant shall be considered for the Wick Cary Endowed Professorship.
