Position Overview Primary Function:
Assists the Technical Director in the day-to-day operation of the scene shop and other theatre spaces.This position receives general supervision. Broad instructions are provided and the staff member uses judgment and experience to carry out assignments. Completed assignments and finished products are reviewed by supervisor after completion.

Position Description Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversees and directs teams of student workers as they build and paint scenery. Student workers may also need oversight when hanging lights, loading and transporting materials and other tasks relating to the daily operation of the theatre. At the instruction of the Technical Director, completes tasks related to all aspects of production and management of theatre and rehearsal spaces.Under Technical Directors supervision, leads teams of student workers to complete production projects.Assists with the upkeep and maintenance of Theatre and Rehearsal spaces.Production interns interested in designing may be considered for those duties as a separate assignment.
Judgment Required: Judgment and discretion as to the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position.
Machines & Equipment Used: May include- Hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, etc.)Small power tools (cordless drills, routers, circular saws, etc.)Large power tools (table saws, compound miter saws, band saws, radial arm saws, etc.)Painting tools (brushes, rollers, sponges, pneumatic sprayers, etc.)Theatrical lighting equipment (Ellipsoidals, Fresnels, and Cyc lights) Familiarity with Analogue Sound Consoles, Q-Lab Audio Software, and ETC Eos Lighting Consoles and Software is useful but not required.Other as needed
Budgetary Responsibility: None Personal Interaction/Communication: Student Contact: Assists the technical director with supervising work-study students assigned to scenic and lighting duties, students assigned work as part of coursework, and student volunteers. Internal: As part of the production team, attends meetings of staff and faculty in the Department of Theatre and Dance. Attends departmental production meetings when required. External: Under the direction of the technical director, the production intern may interact with the broader Sewanee community as part of production needs. Under the direction of the technical director, the production intern may have contact with external vendors. Attributes of a Successful Candidate Education:
BA or BFA in Theatre Experience:
Experience in scenic construction, scene painting, and/or stage lighting. This may be as part of coursework, student employment, or professional positions held. Job Related Skills:
Familiarity with a wide variety of power tools ranging from hand tools to large bench tools.Knowledge of how to safely and competently use power tools to build scenic elements. Familiarity with scenic painting techniques Basic stage electrics skills such as hanging and focusing lighting equipment.Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suites.Familiarity with documentation for stage production, such as ground plans, elevations, light plots, and others dependent on assignment.
Licenses & Certifications: None. Supplemental Information Confidential Information: None. Working Environment: Most work is performed indoors. Most work takes place on shop or stage floor level. Some work may require extended periods of time to be spent on a catwalk 19'-24' above the stage floor.
