Crater-Packer 1st Shift Interested in an opportunity to join a leader in the pump industry? The Gorman-Rupp Company, headquartered in Mansfield, Ohio, has been designing, manufacturing, and selling pumps and pumping systems for use in water, wastewater, construction, industrial, original equipment, agriculture, fire protection, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, and other liquid-handling applications for over 90 years. We have an immediate opening for a Crater-Packer at our Main Plant located at 600 South Airport Road in Mansfield. Hours are from 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Position Summary Preparation and inventory maintenance of labels, instructions, tags, and decals as assigned. Work from established procedures, manufacturing orders, manufacturing prints, instruction sheets, computer printouts, record or file data, and written or verbal information.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties Assumes responsibility for creating crating and or packing containers for pumps and components Perform sawing operations to prepare crates or bases for packaging. Nail or staple precut lumber for skids and crates according to sketches and written instructions. Determine the correct position of wood pieces and nail or staple together using hammer or pneumatic nail or staple gun. Stack sides, bottoms, tops or completed crate on skids for removal to the crating area. Use other hand ordinary power tools such as saw, hammer, automatic bander, drill press, tape dispenser, stencil equipment, hand and powered impact and air driver wrenches as required. Move lumber to the storage area as required. Assumes responsibility for following instructions for shipping requirements. Perform all required duties to prepare, pack, crate, or skid a wide variety of centrifugal pumps, components, and units for domestic and export shipments or storage following established methods and procedures. Work from an instruction sheet or general knowledge of shipping requirements. Pack pumps, strainers, and literature, wrapping or otherwise protect as directed into the proper containers. Brace as necessary to prevent shifting or moving in transit. Mark weight, shipping instructions, serial number or special markings to cartons and crates from work orders. Truck crated and packaged pumps to hold areas or in position for material handlers to move to stock areas. Apply decals and warning plates on pumps. Drill mounting holes in plywood bases as necessary and mount pump to base. Apply serial plates, and assemble guards to pumps when required. Assemble wheel kits. Fog pumps. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned. In the absence of crating and packing duties, or as directed, assist the saw operator in handling large and awkward pieces on the saw table or perform other related department duties as required Move materials as necessary in the performance of duties. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations. Performs miscellaneous, special projects and all other duties as assigned. Education/Certification
High School graduate or equivalent.
Additional related training is preferred.
Experience Required A minimum of one year of related experience in a manufacturing environment. Skills/Abilities Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
